The article argues that the underlying foundation of the UN, its racist; imperialistic; sexist; and heteronormative structure, must be deconstructed for any accountability measure to be effective. Or else it trumps the entire purpose of any of the UN’s peacekeeping missions. The voice of "outrage" by Cynthia Enloe’s and many others authors has been used to appeal to those with power to change – to do so.
Extract: “The UN has a responsibility to incorporate transformative equality in order to show that its respect for women lies at the core of its institution, as this can set precedence for its personnel in how to treat women […] we must ask ourselves: why should we accept any less? Maybe we should not stop with accountability of peacekeepers but we should question the accountability of the UN as a whole.”

Their conservative ruling party have now done it again, this time they are targeting environmental defenders and those most affected by climate change. A new Legislation, specifically enacted to prohibit spontaneous gathering and which gives local authorities the right to collect and store information, is a damning step to limit public participation at the upcoming global climate negotiations (COP24) in Katowice, Poland, later this year. The new Legislation has surprisingly managed to stay off the radar, while the international and European community has been continuing their “business as usual”.

Women and girls make out, on estimate, two thirds of the approximately 10,000-15,000 individuals held in slavery in the UK. As such, I question MacIntyre’s analysis and the validity and effects of excluding women’s voices.

It particularly analyses what the mining conflict proves in terms of the Sámi people’s land rights; that they are still settler colonised, and their land is continuously being taken away from them in a construction of expropriation. The article makes suggestions for how to move forward by using Brenna Bhandar’s principle of reconceptualising history. It also provides some recommendations for how the Swedish Government should progress to eliminate the discrimination of Swedish Sámi people’s land rights.
