THIS tried-and-true dessert was printed in a cookbook published by a local organization. I have made a few changes, and it has become one of our favorite desserts. Best prepared a day in advance so the bread fully absorbs the custard and the flavours have a chance to meld. 

makes six 

6 cups cubed day-old bead,* crusts removed, about one baguette or small loaf 
1 ½ Tbsp unsalted butter, plus more for the ramekins/muffin tins 
2 Tbsp granulated sugar, plus more for the ramekins/muffin tins 
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
1/4 tsp kosher salt
⅓ cup chopped, dried cranberries
⅓ cup chopped walnuts 
3 eggs
¾ cup whole milk 
¾ cup whipping cream

* I prefer sourdough but any bread works 

Preheat oven 350ºF.

Place the bread cubes in a large bowl.
