Ypres Tower in Rye
Ypres Tower, Rye, East Sussex, England. Built in the 13th century, the Tower kept watch across the English Channel for French invaders, waves lapped at the rocks below their feet. Two centuries later the sea receded and the town once renowned for its boat building was left stranded on a rocky outcrop two miles inland. You can see the River Rother snaking its way out to the sea. By B Lowe
