Study habits are the pattern of behaviour that a student shows during a regular period of study w... more Study habits are the pattern of behaviour that a student shows during a regular period of study which occurs in an environment. A student tends to learn systematically and efficiently thus making him/her retain the knowledge for a long time. It consists of one's home environment, reading and taking notes, making a strategy to study during the examination and doing homework, etc. Apart from all these, a favourable school environment does play its role in developing good study habits in students. This study is an attempt to probe into the study habits of children of stay-at-home mothers and working mothers in the East district of Sikkim. For this study, 101 students who were studying in class X were randomly selected from 6 senior secondary and 2 secondary schools. Data were analyzed by using study habit inventory (English) constructed and standardized by Dr. B.V. Patel (1975) was used to assess the study habits of students. This study found that the majority of students have below normal or poor study habits. Further, it also found no significant difference in study habits of children of working and non-working mothers concerning all 7 components of SHI.

Hence, this paper is an attempt to understand the attitude of students of Government Secondary School towards environmental protection and the level of awareness they have on the impact of environmental degradation. For this, Environment Ability Awareness Measure (EAAM) was used which was constructed and standardized by P. K. Jha (1998).
The present study is undertaken to examine the life satisfaction and psychological wellbeing of s... more The present study is undertaken to examine the life satisfaction and psychological wellbeing of students and young teachers in Loyola College of Education, Namchi, South Sikkim. For this purpose, standardized tools of the Life Satisfaction Scale and Psychological Well-being Scale were utilized. This study found most of the young adults to be above average satisfied in life satisfaction scale and the majority of young adults were found to be moderate in level of psychological well-being. Further, this study found a moderate positive correlation between the two variables.
Curiosity is about being aware and open, checking things out, experimenting, and interacting with... more Curiosity is about being aware and open, checking things out, experimenting, and interacting with in one's surroundings. It is a tendency to wonder, to inquire, to investigate and to seek information about anything that is new or unknown. It is an essential part of human consciousness as it contributes to learning, problem solving and creative thinking. In other words a satisfied curiosity can be called as an emotionally healthy curiosity. There is a connection in the brain between curiosity, memory and learning. Thus, it can also be said that emotionally healthy child will have better retention and learning habits. When the child enters the school (s)he/she becomes more eager to learn, this is the age of socializing. At this age the child starts making friends and trusting people outside his/her family. It is very important to nurture their curiosity at this age (at primary school) because this is where the base is formed. For the present study 144 children studying in different private schools in Namchi town were selected from the total population of 223. To assess children's curiosity, Children's Curiosity Scale (English version) developed by Dr. Rajiv Kumar (2009) was used and for academic achievement of the students, the annual result of the previous class was analysed. No significant correlation was found between children's academic achievement and their curiosity.
Innovative practices are purposefully organised and risk taking changes introduced into any schoo... more Innovative practices are purposefully organised and risk taking changes introduced into any school system to ensure efficiency and increased productivity. It is the introduction of new ideas, methods, strategies and techniques for doing things into the school system for the purpose of improving both internal and external efficiency of the system. The present study is an attempt to examine the innovative practices adopted in various Senior Secondary Schools in South district of Sikkim. For this purpose 5 Government Sen. Sec. Schools (2 from urban and 3 from rural areas) were selected as representation of the population. Further, Heads of the schools and teachers teaching Arts, Commerce and Science subjects were selected to collected data from. This study found that different kinds of innovative practices were adopted by schools such as ICT, group learning, teacher guardian concept, simulated library, special tutorials for slow learners in primary sections, subject base quiz in morning assembly, assembly reading, remedial classes, project work, field trips, model preparation and dramas and elocution. Further it was found that teachers do undertake training organised by SCERT, DIET, Education Department of the state government and ZIIEI, Delhi.
