Empire and Regency (Neoclassical) Design

The French Empire and English Regency period (1800-1830 ) was a period of classical furniture. Classical Roman and Greek styles were copied. Common Elements: sphinx heads, winged griffins, lion heads, various animal legs; Roman, Egyptian, or Greece deities; scrolled ends, medallions on vases or busts, swags of laurel or ribbon, slender arabesques against backgrounds. Preferred Wood: Mahogany, Rosewood and Ebony. Colors may include "Pompeiian red", pale tints, stone colors or stark white.
