Macrobenthic invertebrates samples were collected seasonally from five stations, selected accordi... more Macrobenthic invertebrates samples were collected seasonally from five stations, selected according to their environmental ecosystem (marine, brackish and fresh) in Ashtoum El-Gamil protected area. This protectorate is located in the north western part of Lake Manzala. Macrobenthic community was found including thirty five species belonging to four groups. Of these species, 3 Polychaetes, 19 gastropods, 7 bivalves and 6 crustacean. Some of them are freshwater species and others are marine. Gastropods were dominated other groups, the highest average standing crop was recorded in station V. Macrobenthic fauna reached its maximum average value in spring in the whole area, while winter was the minimum productive season. Environmental parameter and nature of the sediment were important factors affecting distribution and abundance of macro benthic invertebrates. But It has been found that the percentage of the live organisms which have been monitored do not exceed 7% of total organisms.

Milne Edwards, 1834) was conducted in the Suez Canal from July 2012 to June 2013. The annual sex ratio (Male:Female) of S. aspera was female biased with values of 1:1.25. Out of the four ovarian development stages of this crab, two stages were observed in the Suez Canal throughout the whole year. The ovigerous crab's carapace width varied from 28 to 52 mm. This crab species can spawn during most of the year in the canal water, with a peak during late spring and early winter. The fecundity of ovigerous females ranged between 2349 and 13600 eggs with a mean of 5494 ± 1486 eggs. Female crabs that reached sexual maturity exhibited a minimum carapace width varying between 22 and 46 mm, and fifty percentage of all ovigerous females showed a carapace width of 36 mm.
ABSTRACT Levels of the heavy metals Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe),Manganese (Mn), Lead (P... more ABSTRACT Levels of the heavy metals Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe),Manganese (Mn), Lead (Pb), and Zinc (Zn) were determined in water, sediment and soft tissues of the gastropod Thais carinifera and thebivalveVenerupisaureus inTimsah Lake-Suez Canal.The concentrations of heavymetals in water were 0.5, 0.9, 2.5, 0.22, 0.41and 0.25 for Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn µg/L, respectively. The corresponding concentration values in the sediments 12.8, 10.2, 18.8, 14.5, 12 and 45 µg/g dry weight for Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn, respectively. While the heavy metals concentrated in molluscs was 17.5, 17.4, 933.5, 20.9, 30.25 and 89 (µg/g dry weight) for Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn, respectively. The results indicated that the accumulation of heavy metals is predominant in molluscs than in sediment and water. The gastropod (T. carinifera) and the bivalve (V. aureus) accumulate different amount of metals in their tissues. The accumulation of metals was more pronounced inV. aureus thanT. carinifera.A positive correlation between metal concentration and size of the gastropod T. carinifera, which means that the largest individuals contained the highest levels of metals. While, in V. aureusthe smaller the bivalve, the higher the heavy metal concentration.

In many countries, increasing of the industrialization and agricultural activities contribute to an increasing of discharge of chemical pollutants into the ecosystem, which lead to increase in metals levels in the natural waters that causing damage of fresh and marine habitats (Muhammad et al., 2011; El Nemr, 2012). Trace metals exist naturally in the earth's crust. Some of them are essential for biological systems, since they participate in numerous enzymatic processes (Pellerin and Amiard, 2009). On the other hand, trace metals such as cadmium, lead and mercury are generally toxic for organisms, even at low concentrations (Stankovic and Jovic, 2012).Their bioaccumulation in tissues lead to intoxication, decreased fertility, cellular and tissue damage, cell death, dysfunction of a variety of organs and induce cancer in humans (Benavides et al., 2005; Nordberg, 2010). The grooved carpet shell clam, Ruditapes decussatus, together with other clams present one of the... more The grooved carpet shell clam, Ruditapes decussatus, together with other clams present one of the main components of bivalve production and make up about 25 % of total mollusk production in the world (FAO, 2010). It is the most appreciated native clam species in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Tunisia and Egypt. According to FAO (2016), the world production of Ruditapes decussatus were 6324.34 tons. The Egyptian production of Ruditapes decussatus ranged from 690 ton. to 4036 ton. (Pinello et al., 2020). Nutrition is one of the dominant factors influencing bivalve growth and survival, and has been extensively reviewed by Marshall et al. (2010). Live microalgae are traditionally used as food for bivalves in mollusk hatcheries or bivalve culture (Pernet et al., 2003). The stomach content of 1000 and 1293 specimens from males and females respectively of Marsupenaeu... more The stomach content of 1000 and 1293 specimens from males and females respectively of Marsupenaeus japonicus, inhabiting the western Mediterranean Egyptian coast, were studied monthly from May 2015 to April 2016. The aim of this study was to identify the diet items of M. japonicus based on the analysis of the stomach contents. The stomach analysis was carried out by using the frequency of occurrence (O %) and numerical methods (N %). The kuruma shrimp M. japonocus is omnivorous, but with an important carnivorous component, mainly on crustacean and fish remains. Represented data of this study indicated that M. japonicus has not food preference between sexes. Stomach contents of adult and juvenile specimens were similar. The quantitative analysis and seasonally variations in the feeding intensity was quite high during the summer, autumn and winter.
