It is an adjective used to describe circumstances where 'objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.' This term has gained currency in many contexts recently. The Oxford dictionary declared Post-truth as its word of the year in 2016. Our world has come to be known as the Post-truth world. This indicates that objective facts are less cared for than emotions and beliefs. It is, therefore, important to look at this term closely and try to understand what significance it carries for teachers and learners of English. This paper tries to look at how the notion of post-truth affects our lives and how best we can cope or (if necessary) deal with its influence.
The paper hypothesizes that critical thinking must be promoted with greater zeal and better methodologies by the teachers of English so that their learners incorporate the ability to look at things in the light of the objective facts than what they seem to be under the impressions of emotions and beliefs. In the post-truth world, the teachers have greater responsibility than ever for promoting critical thinking as a life skill among their learners. Helping the students mature into responsible citizens and discern between apparent and actual truth is also an important life-skill. For a healthy democracy, this skill has always been a necessity and English teachers have a more important role to play in helping the students cultivate this skill.

It will be easily believed that historical novel has a wider appeal than other types of fiction because it deals with the life not only of an individual or a group of individuals, but with the life of an entire nation, society or even with that of a period as affected by the tumults and turbulences of an era. Its popularity rests also on the fact that most people don't like to read plain history and prefer historical novel to history because unlike history, they derive both instruction and pleasure from the historical novel. The effects of historical fiction are manifold and far-reaching because it appeals to the 'collective unconscious' of the people by reviving their 'collective memories', pleasing their collective fantasies and even by nurturing their 'collective dreams and ambitions'. It is due to this that the historical novel has a major role to play in nation building. The novelist can broaden the historical awareness of the people by appealing to their 'collective sensibilities', by reminding them of their former glories and also by warning them of the impending doom if they don't learn from the past. This paper proposes to discuss the process of contribution of the historical novel to nation building in contemporary literary situation, particularly in the Third World countries as they stand in the post-Colonial era Historical fiction, or historical novel to be more precise, has always remained one of the most appealing and (hence) popular branches of literary production. It will be easily believed that historical novel has wider appeal than other types of fiction, primarily because Thakur 7

Teaching these skills becomes all the more challenging in a country like India which is extremely diverse mainly in terms of cultures and languages. Students have to be motivated and worked upon and closely monitored by the teacher. Traditional methods and tools of teaching listening and pronunciation are becoming outdated very fast with the advent and spread of computers and high speed internet even in the remote parts of India. With the students also becoming tech savvy day by day, it has become the need of the hour to introduce a technology inspired change in teaching skills like listening and pronunciation. This will not only motivate the students to learn, but also make it possible for the teacher to monitor and track their progress effectively. This paper aims to discuss how technology inspired approach can make teaching effective for adult ESL learners and how different technologies like Digital Language Lab software and various components of interactive web like websites, wikis, blogs and social media can be combined and implemented to inspire students even in a small town. Since the presenter teaches at undergraduate level, the discussion has been restricted to adult ESL students.
