Héctor Escobedo
Héctor Leonel Escobedo Ayala: Guatemalan archaeologist educated at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (Licenciado en Arqueología, 1991) and Vanderbilt University (Ph.D., 2006). He has lead archaeological research projects at the Maya sites of Kaminaljuyú, Ixkún, Sacul, Ixtontón, Dos Pilas, Ixtutz, Las Pacayas, Arroyo de Piedra, Punta de Chimino, Piedras Negras, San Bartolo, El Zotz and El Perú-Waka’. He has taught at the Guatemalan universities of San Carlos de Guatemala and Del Valle. Escobedo has also served as Minister of Culture and Sports, Viceminister and General Director of Cultural and Natural Patrimony. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Academy of Geography and History of Guatemala and is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Archaeological Research Symposium in Guatemala. Escobedo is Director of Cultural Affairs of PACUNAM, a private Foundation devoted to the conservation of the Maya natural and cultural heritage of Guatemala.
