Own results and those obtained by other authors in respect of clinical findings, diagnosis and therapy are discussed. Our experiences have shown that an aggressive diagnostic or therapeutic approach is not indicated, since the sequels of these extravasates have no special clinical importance. As a rule, treatment is unnecessary, especially inpatient observation. Hence, our experiences confirm the trend to proceed as conservatively as possible.

Especially in cases of ruptured aneurysms the hemorrhage and its extent to retroperitoneal and intraperitoneal space can be well demonstrated.

The computer-tomography of the most important regions is demonstrated by individual examples. The preliminary results indicate, that computer-tomography is reliable in evaluation of the extend of pathological processes. Therefor follow-up data after treatment were obtained by computer-tomography only.

In the peripheral areas of the lung, interstitial parenchymal alterations and metastases were better visualized by CT. The size of central bronchial carcinomas and space-occupying lesions of the thoracic wall can be determined with greater accuracy by CT. Primary tumors, lymphnode enlargement and vascular alterations can be differentiated and localized more precisely by CT. The size of the heart chambers, intracavitary tumors as well as septal and myocardial wall thickness can be determined non invasively.

A systematic analysis of possible predictors for good image quality needs to be conducted if 3D-CTA is to replace digital subtraction angiography in the postoperative setting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of clip orientation on image quality and to assess titanium clip artefacts quantitatively on 3D-CTA. Four different Yasargil titanium clips were placed on an acrylic glass tablet. Standardised 3D-CTA scanning was performed at clip-gantry angles of 0 degrees , 45 degrees and 90 degrees . Multiplanar reconstructions of the clips in frontal and lateral projections were performed. 3D-CTA image quality and the severity of titanium artefacts were judged by four observers. Twenty-four images were evaluated. Using frontal reconstructions, clip artefacts at a clip-gantry angle of 0 degrees were almost exclusively distributed alo...

Cerebral perfusion CT using dynamic CT after bolus injection of contrast has recently been introd... more Cerebral perfusion CT using dynamic CT after bolus injection of contrast has recently been introduced in the clinical management of stroke patients. Based on the indicator dilution principle various theoretical models can be formulated which all aim at the quantitative determination of cerebral blood flow (CBF). Our Perfusion CT approach is based on the "maximum slope" model and allows in addition to the calculation of CBF parameter images the display of cerebral blood volume (CBV) and "time to peak" as diagnostically meaningful parameters. This approach allows the detection of acute ischemia of the supratentorial brain with a sensitivity of 91% and has proven its value as a routine diagnostic tool for acute stroke. The combination of various functional maps provides excellent information regarding the type of ischemia. Although the direct assessment of ischemia using absolute CBF values is severely restricted by patient dependent systematic errors, the severity ...

The value of CT is discussed and compared with that of other imaging modalities. Attention is also drawn to the value of i.v. application of contrast medium and of primary or secondary CT myelography.
