Bantam chicken fans of all ages will love this sweet story of Bridie the bantam hen and her unusual brood of babies! It all starts when Bridie finds and abandoned egg and incubates it, only to hatch our a Crested Grebe that follows her everywhere. Soon the other animals (a warthog, an elephant, etc) are bringing her eggs that they find, each of which hatches into a bigger and bigger bird until she finally hatches out an ostrich! The animals tease Bridie about her bizarre menagerie, until finally she hatches out a crocodile who joins the parade of "children" following Bridie around! No one dares tease the mother of a crocodile and so Bridie and her brood lived happily ever after undisturbed. The illustrations in this gem are fantastic!
