The purpose of the article is to present the occupational characteristics of people injured in ac... more The purpose of the article is to present the occupational characteristics of people injured in accidents at workplaces that use construction scaffolding. The results obtained from the analysis of occupational accidents involving construction scaffolding, which took place in five Polish voivodships: Dolnoslaskie, Lubelskie, Lubuskie, Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie between 2010-2015, were presented. 177 occupational accidents were analysed. On the basis of post-accident protocols, the following occupational characteristics of employees who suffered from accidents were identified: the age of the victim, the time of day when the accident happened and the season of the year. In turn, on the basis of a review of the subject literature, the course of changes in an employee's performance during the day, week and calendar year was determined. The relation between efficiency and the identified occupational characteristics of the injured parties was determined.

The vast majority of cases can be prevented by appropriate and effective preventive measures. Knowledge about the course of events, their causes and consequences is required in order to carry out such actions. The knowledge gained can provide a basis for drawing conclusions of a preventive nature. The article presents a mathematical model, which was used in the study of the phenomenon of accidents in the construction industry, and provides the test results that were obtained using 350 sample cases.

The construction industry is characterized by a high level of hazards to the life and health of e... more The construction industry is characterized by a high level of hazards to the life and health of employees and by a high accident rate. Knowledge relating to the course of the accident process plays a major role in work safety assessment and in accident prevention. On the basis of GUS reports and the EUROSTAT accident model a comprehensive general model of accident situation development has been developed. The model enables one to trace the different possible configurations of the events occurring in accident processes in the construction industry and to determine the most probable scenario of events. It is essential to define such scenarios in order to correctly specify the directions of preventive measures. S t r e s z c z e n i e Budownictwo charakteryzuje się wysokim poziomem zagrożeń dla życia i zdrowia pracowników oraz wysoką wypadkowością. W ocenie bezpieczeństwa pracy oraz prewencji wypadkowej istotną rolę odgrywa wiedza dotycząca przebiegu procesu wypadkowego. Na podstawie analizy opracowań GUS oraz modelu wypadku zaproponowanego przez EUROSTAT opracowano ogólny kompleksowy model rozwoju sytuacji wypadkowej. Model ten pozwala na prześledzenie różnych możliwych konfiguracji zdarzeń występujących w procesach wypadkowych w budownictwie oraz określenie najbardziej prawdopodobnego scenariusza zdarzeń. Zdefiniowanie takich scenariuszy ma znaczenie dla prawidłowego sprecyzowania kierunków działań prewencyjnych.

Cumulative Cost Spent on Construction Projects of Different Sectors

The purpose of the paper is to analyse and evaluate the course of various construction projects a... more The purpose of the paper is to analyse and evaluate the course of various construction projects and to compare the planned, incurred and actual costs. Moreover, the authors aim to indicate the basic causes of cost deviations from the earned values, i.e., those that were really performed on a construction site. The data on the development of the original research methodology come from the authors' own experience and professional work involving the providing of Bank Investment Supervision services in the years 2006-2019 on behalf of banks granting investment loans for non-public contracts. The authors of the article collected and processed cost data by conducting monthly direct technical and financial inspections at construction sites of implemented investments. The measurement of the cost and budget of investment tasks was documented in 536 technical and financial reports. A database was built in the form of tables that were prepared for the purpose of value and cumulative analyses of the cost and time of 40 construction projects measured in a monthly cycle from 8 different investment sectors. On their basis, charts of planned / estimated, invoiced / incurred, and actual / earned values of the cumulative costs of the examined construction projects were prepared. The elaborated levels of the amounts of construction that works to be executed were determined using the S-curve. The selected, planned, incurred and actual cost graphs in homogeneous groups, and also earned cost graphs in a diverse group were presented. The conducted studies, which are briefly presented in the article, relate to various construction projects concerning 8 typological research samples. Analyses were carried out in accordance with the methodology of the Earned Value Method (EVM), which enables the actual achieved budgets of various investment tasks to be assessed. Analogies in the arrangement of cumulative cash flow curves were observed within the same groups of buildings, and also between them. Such information is fundamental in terms of controlling and predicting of cost and schedule performances within homogeneous construction sectors. Planning diverse investments budget and timeframe the executives may foresee in measurable way the most probable spend of actual and earned values of managed projects. They can estimate the range of cost and schedule overrun at the construction project completion and set up mitigation actions to minimise the risks of such overrunning.

The cause and effect relations between the occurrence of damage to the elements of tenement houses, which are treated as an expression of their maintenance conditions, and the size of the technical wear of these elements were determined in a representative and purposefully selected sample of 102 apartment houses built in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries in the Wroclaw, Poland downtown district “Srodmiescie”. Recognition of the impact of the maintenance of residential buildings on the level of their technical wear was carried out using quantitative methods from fuzzy set categories, and also with the use of the authors’ own model. The cause and effect relationships between the occurrence of damage in the elements of tenement houses (treated as proof of their maintenance conditions), and the size of the technical wear of these elements were determined using a representative and purposefully selected sample of 102 residential buildings erected during the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Wroclaw’s “Downtown” district. Abstract The aim of the undertaken research was to identify the most frequently repeated accident... more Abstract The aim of the undertaken research was to identify the most frequently repeated accident scenarios in relation to accidents that involve scaffolding. The source of knowledge was accident documentation containing information on the circumstances of accidents, as well as their course and consequences. As part of the research, an IT Database (ITD) was developed, which involved accidents that occurred in Poland over the past five years which were related to work on scaffolding. An original graphical, mathematical and IT process model was developed in order to enable a large set of accidents involving construction scaffolding to be studied. Due to the fact that every accident proceeds according to a different scenario, a map of possible accident scenarios was developed and presented in the form of a directed graph. Graph algorithms, including the Dijkstra algorithm, were used to build the IT model. Based on the information contained in the ITD, the course of the accident sequence was analysed in the proposed graph. The most probable accident scenarios, the probability of their occurrence, and the course of the critical path were determined. The obtained results constitute a starting point for estimating the occupational risk associated with working on scaffoldings.

Oczywiste jest, że spożywanie alkoholu jest uznawane za poważne zagrożenie dla życia, zdrowia, a także bezpieczeństwa pracowników. Celem badań była identyfikacja głównych problemów, jakie wiążą się z nadużywaniem i spożywaniem alkoholu w pracy wśród pracowników branży budowlanej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stanowisk pracy, na których wykonywane są prace na rusztowaniach budowlanych. The abuse of alcohol is widely regarded as a serious threat to the lives, health, and safety of employees. The aim of the research was to identify the main problems that are associated with alcohol abuse and consumption at work among employees in the construction industry, with particular emphasis on workstations where work is carried out on construction scaffoldings. Data for the analysis were obtained from two different sources. The first one was post-accident documentation on occupational accidents. The second one was surveys collected during the research project. This study confirmed that excessive and disproportionate alcohol consumption can be the cause of an accident, and consequently death at workplaces with scaffolding. The article attempts to assess the state of threat of working on scaffolding on the basis of the proposed coefficients concerning the possibility of an occupational accident occurring. The article presents the analysis of 10 parameters, which were classified into three groups of factors that cause accidents: technical, organizational, and human factors. In order to assess the state of threat of working on scaffolding, partial hazard factors and a simplified and accurate factor of the state of threat of working were proposed. Wraz z rozwojem nowych technologii w branży budowlanej, w szczególności technologii BIM, powstają... more Wraz z rozwojem nowych technologii w branży budowlanej, w szczególności technologii BIM, powstają innowacyjne metody zbierania informacji i analizy konstrukcji, w tym rusztowań budowlanych. Kierując się tym spostrzeżeniem, autorzy artykułu zaproponowali metodykę oceny wybranych elementów konstrukcji rusztowania budowlanego z wykorzystaniem narzędzi technologii BIM. Analizie poddano rusztowanie budowlane o powierzchni ok. 1500 m2. Zgromadzony przy pomocy bezzałogowego statku powietrznego materiał zdjęciowy posłużył do opracowania chmury punktów, której analiza pozwoliła na szczegółową ocenę elementów konstrukcji. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań wskazano zalety i ograniczenia wynikające z zastosowania tej technologii do analiz konstrukcji rzutowań budowlanych.

W wyniku wykorzystania bezzałogowego statku powietrznego i przeprowadzonej analizy zidentyfikowano newralgiczne elementy konstrukcji rusztowań, takie jak: połączenia, stężenia, miejsca zakotwień i inne. The article attempts to assess the state of occupational safety at workstations that use construc... more The article attempts to assess the state of occupational safety at workstations that use construction scaffolding based on the proposed coefficients of the possibility of the occurrence of an occupational accident. The coefficients were determined on the basis of data that was collected from post-accident control protocols concerning occupational accidents involving construction scaffolding. The accidents took place in Poland in the construction industry and occurred in five voivodeships in the years 2008-2017. In the conducted research, the following parameters were analysed: age of the injured person, time in which the accident took place, type of carried out works, type of scaffolding on which the accident occurred, and the height from which the injured person fell. In order to assess the safety of work on scaffolding, partial coefficients of the possibility of the occurrence of a dangerous situation, as well as a general coefficient of a hazard, were proposed. The obtained results allowed a form in order to initially assess the safety of a construction scaffolding to be developed using the proposed partial hazard coefficients. This form enables the preliminary assessment of the probability of the occurrence of an accident on scaffolding to be conducted in relation to the population of occupational accidents and the population of construction scaffoldings.

The purpose of the article is to present the occupational characteristics of people injured in ac... more The purpose of the article is to present the occupational characteristics of people injured in accidents at workplaces that use construction scaffolding. The results obtained from the analysis of occupational accidents involving construction scaffolding, which took place in five Polish voivodships: Dolnoslaskie, Lubelskie, Lubuskie, Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie between 2010-2015, were presented. 177 occupational accidents were analysed. On the basis of post-accident protocols, the following occupational characteristics of employees who suffered from accidents were identified: the age of the victim, the time of day when the accident happened and the season of the year. In turn, on the basis of a review of the subject literature, the course of changes in an employee's performance during the day, week and calendar year was determined. The relation between efficiency and the identified occupational characteristics of the injured parties was determined.

In order to investigate the circumstances of accidents, a methodology developed by the European Statistical Office of the European Union (ESAW) was used during the research. This methodology allows the causes of accidents to be identified, classified into generic groups, and also allows the importance of individual causes in their generic groups to be assessed. For the classification of causes, the Technical-Organizational-Human (TOH) method was used. Its assumption is the division of causes into technical (T), organizational (O), and human (H) ones. Pareto-Lorenz analysis and ABC classification were used to identify the most important causes. The developed methodology was used to analyze and assess the causes of accidents that involve construction scaffolding using the data of accidents that occurred in Poland as an example. The use of the proposed methodology in different countries will enable the results of the conducted studies and analysis to be compared, and conclusions that would be of a great importance in accident prevention to be drawn.
