CHORAL SCORES IN NEW MEDIA The Funarte editions of choral music mark perhaps the most important Brazilian effort in the genre since the labor devoted to this area by Villa-Lobos in the years 1932-1945. A total of 77 scores were issued by Funarte, in series ranging from arrangements of folk themes to original works by Brazilian composers belonging to various schools. This work is intimately related to the broad spectrum of short courses taking place throughout Brazil which have gained new life recently, and which have as their goal the improvement of choral directors and choral singers. This new start necessitated, in order to be effective, to be complemented by new attention to publication of choral scores. As the 77 titles were out of print, it seemed proper to republish 37 of them, but working from a new basis. Thus, the scores for these works are now presented in a digitized form, and with more information relating to technical and stylistic questions. The chief innovation, however, is the fact that they are now distributed exclusively over the internet, with a translation into English of each title, replacing the earlier printed editions. We thus conform with the very nature of the internet, which obliges an internationalization in the presentation of content, so as to make it available on a planetary scale. Along with the thousands of Brazilian choruses which will benefit from this work, tens of thousands of others will be able to get to know works which will bring our music to all peoples.
This piece features numerous vocal effects through non-traditional notation. The vocal lines present colorful sonorities achieved through multiple chromatic modulations and timbre variations. The close harmonies and clusters evoke a sonorous atmosphere with distinct dramatic climaxes. Although this piece presents no challenges regarding the text, it is sophisticated and ideal for auditioned choirs. The overall effect is of a contemporary piece that provides an exquisite aural impression.
