The Mellerio Shell Tiara
The Mellerio Shell Tiara, crafted by Mellerio dits Meller, is one of the oldest and most frequently worn pieces in the Spanish royal collection. Initially owned by Infanta Isabella ("La Chata"), it was bequeathed to her nephew, King Alfonso XIII, and subsequently worn by his wife, Queen Ena. In 1962, it was gifted to Princess Sofia of Greece and Denmark upon her marriage to future King Juan Carlos I, becoming one of her most favored tiaras. Sofia frequently wore it at state banquets and official portraits, continuing the tradition of loaning it to other royal family members, including her daughters and Queen Letizia. Although it remains Sofia's personal property, it is likely to continue its legacy with future Spanish queens. #QueenSofia #QueenLetizia #MellerioShellTiara
