I plant a lot of basil around my flowers in the summer too. Great for cooking, smell amazing, deer don't seem to like basil either. There are several purple and red basils, little mini leaf basil, etc. Great adding small color and texture.

Russian sage, drought resistant, late summer bloomer, bees love it and best of all deer don't like it. I should plant my whole yard in this.
