In commemorating sacrificial deaths (today is Good Friday), here's one you might not know of... Giles Corey (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giles_Corey) was accused of witchcraft during the Salem Trials. Refusing to enter a plea, he was sentenced to being pressed to death--in which rocks were placed on him until he suffocated (the same cause of death as crucifixion). His last words were reportedly a defiant "More weight!"
