I learned how to quilt by taking a class that taught this block. It is a great place to begin quilting, as one learns how to cut strips and manage the 1/4 inch seam allowance. A couple of weeks ago, I made a scrappy quarter log cabin cushion for the couch. It's quite heavily quilted and sturdy for the amount of sitting and leaning and cuddling that will be required of it. There are around 480 pieces in the top of this log cabin quilt. Accordingly it's a little bit cardboardy and heavy. Nothing a bit of wear and some washes won't soften up.
