During that 10 months he neglected any and all visitors including his best friend Ronin, and his girlfriend of 2 years Kristina. Upon his release from rehab, he comes home to find how much things have changed since he went in. Among those changes, he learns that in his absence his girlfriend has fallen in love with another man and is engaged. Before he goes into rehab, he gives Kristina a large wick candle as a symbol of how their love is like a forever burning candle and nothing could ever put them out. But from his neglect and explosive behavior he put their love out. As a result, she later visits him when he returns home, she returns the candle unburned, with a letter saying how this is truly the end of their relationship, but reasserts him that he has a second chance to live that life that burns forever.
