Raised by a dogmatic father, Amarkant struggles to assert his passion for studies and is pressured to focus on the family business instead. His life is complicated by marriage to a woman who considers herself to be his intellectual superior. Stuck between a father who dictates and a wife who wants to rule, Amarkant falls for a dynamic young woman which challenges him further. Ultimately, Amarkant pursues activism and confronts the fickle nature of men and women facing crisis in a pre-Independence community charged by social change, ideologies and human contradictions.
