The leaders and backers of the gang are powerful politically as well as desperate men. Anita is captured by the gang and immured in an insane asylum. Shorty and Kane bore through a stone wall with parts of an iron bedstead and rescue Anita just as Jim Baxter, head of the gang, has arranged to have her removed to a still more secure hiding place.
