He was carrying a bunch of flowers and a beribboned box of candy on the way to see his girl, and he felt the "slicker" would add a finishing touch. As he rode along, a friend hailed him and asked him to take care of his pup, giving Reddy a milk bottle, with instructions to see that the dog was fed regularly. The good-natured Reddy obligingly took the dog and placed the bottle in his pocket. May, who had been waiting expectantly, welcomed Reddy and thanked him for the flowers. "I've another present for you in my pocket," said Reddy, thinking of the candy. May reached into the pocket of the new "slicker" and, horrors, extracted the milk bottle. Reddy cleared himself by bringing in the dog, which he left outside, and explained the purpose of the bottle. A few days later, as Reddy sat by the roadside, a woman came along carrying a baby. Seeing someone down the road to whom she wished to speak, she placed the baby in Reddy's arms and hurried after her friend. Just then May appears, in vain Reddy endeavored to hide the baby. In vain he tried to explain its presence. May wrathfully accused him of unfaithfulness and Reddy, in desperation, tossed the baby into her arms and fled. May, carrying the baby, followed in pursuit, and both were stopped by an armed ranchman who thought that Reddy was trying to desert his family. The frantic mother appeared, assuming charge of her child, and the abused Reddy found that his luck had turned at last. Written by
