He is a "natural-born" prevaricator and he seems incapable of telling the truth, even though he always gets caught. He incurs the displeasure of his sweetheart who treats him with contempt, but when she is attacked by a bandit and kidnapped, he rises to the occasion and makes good with her by rescuing her.
