She induces her maid to place a diamond brooch in ...See moreJealous of the attention shown to chorus girl Irene, leading lady Miss Gold--with whom Jack Bronson is intimate-- does not hesitate to show her contempt for the one so far beneath her. She induces her maid to place a diamond brooch in Irene's makeup box. The maid cautiously sneaks in, but Mabel sees her seeing the brooch in the box. Miss Gold reports the loss to the manager; he makes a search and finds the brooch in Irene's possession. Irene is taken to court and charged by Miss Gold with the theft. Jack feels sure that some mistake has been made and returns to the theater, where he meets Mabel. She slips a note in his hand, stating that she saw Miss Gold's maid put the brooch where it was found. On the day of the trial, Jack insists upon Mabel being in court and testifying on behalf of her friend. Miss Gold and her maid testify that the brooch was stolen by Irene. At the conclusion of their evidence, Mabel is introduced as a witness for the accused. Her evidence convinces the jury of Irene's innocence. She is honorably discharged and goes home to her old mother. Jack visits her and asks her to become his wife, which she gladly does. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
