The teacher is worried in case he is like his predecessors who were not patriotic and were fond of speaking German. The evening approaches and the young man finally enters the room. The teacher realizes from his first few words that he is a loyal patriot. He also, however, needs to ensure that he is a good musician. The young teacher plays on a few instruments but he prefers the violin. The old teacher is reluctant to lend him his valuable instrument. He, himself, plays the piano.
