He admits that there was just one, and she was the-sort-of-girl-who-came-from-heaven. As he tells his story we see him as a young man striving to turn his budding literary genius into a practical money-earning power. Then how he meets this most beautiful girl at an ice cream parlor and falls in love at first sight with her Quaker-like modesty and shyness. He makes her acquaintance and finally gains sufficient courage to ask the demure little maiden if she will not allow him to escort her home. She consents and on the way cannot repress her exclamations of delight at the show-windows, particularly over a beautiful new hat in a fashionable milliner's, and Vinton gallantly offers to purchase it for her. She refuses but is won over. Vinton finds the hat had a fancy price attached to it, but makes good his bluff. Next day he brings her flowers and learns that she is an actress. He goes to the theater to see her, and is more entranced than ever as she comes tripping out with the chorus. After the performance he takes her to a quaint little Bohemian restaurant, where she orders quite a large assortment of eatables and drinkables for such a bashful girl, and the check staggers Vinton. He is game, however, and pays without a whimper. Several days later he receives a handsome check from a publishing company as a retainer on the sale of his novel and at once buys some new furniture and a beautiful ring in anticipation of a happy event in the near future. He winds up by a supper at the Astorbilt. Just as they finish a most luxurious meal she sees a gentleman passing and gives a start of fear. She hurriedly rises and leaves Vinton with the sad words, "I'm afraid I must go. I see my husband waiting for me. Thank you so much for a lovely time." Written by
