One of the initial causes of damage to an overhung type centrifugal pump is damage to the Pedesta... more One of the initial causes of damage to an overhung type centrifugal pump is damage to the Pedestal Cover because it functions as a protector for the Pedestal which is the main component of this type of pump. The aim of this research is to modify the Pedestal Cover of a 4-4x11 Overhung type centrifugal pump as an effort to increase pump productivity.
The method used is to modify the Seal Chamber area using a circulation system so that sand deposits in the area can be sucked in directly and expelled in the suction pump area. This circulation can reduce erosion that occurs on the Pedestal Cover.
The results of this research proved that the modifications made were able to increase the pump usage period by 19.75%, from 1944 hours to 2328 hours usage period. And increasing the usage period by 384 hours will increase centrifugal pump productivity by 336,000 barrels.

The objective of the research is to obtain liquid fuel from pyrolysis of waste plastics that is safe for humans as well as environment, with a heating value and fuel quality meet the standardized compliant. The method used for the research is plastic waste pyrolysis heated at 900 °C, and the resulting vapor is condensed through a crossflow condenser. The method resulted in a liquid fuel with a calorific value of 46,848 J/g, which is greater than that of plastic waste processing at a temperature of 425 °C that is only 41,870 J/g. In addition, the nature of current method for treating plastic waste is considered more secure than that of plastic waste processing at the temperature of 425 °C. The reason for this is the fact that the percentage of compounds that could potentially be carcinogenic (boric acid and cyclopentanone) is reduced.

Moreover in 2008, the estimated amount of midden in Indonesia reached 38.5 million tons per year with the largest compositions are organic waste (58%), waste plastics (14%), waste paper (9%) and wood waste (4%) (Ministry of Environment, 2008). Meanwhile in Depok City, the amount of waste which goes to Depok City’s landfill waste is 350-400 tonnes / day (Head of Technical Unit Landscape Depok City Sanitation Department, 2012). From the data, above, can be confirmed using plastic waste as an alternative fuel can be superior because plastic waste is the raw material which is cheap, easily processed, and can reduce environmental pollution. The processing of plastic waste into fuel conversion is done using a plastic waste machine with a continuous system, the working principle of heating at high temperature. Tests which are conducted in this study is to test the octane rating by bomb calorie meter, test anylizer gas emissions, and test octane gas chromatography. Plastic waste fuel, which is the outcome from plastic waste conversion machine with continuous system, can be used as fuel for vehicles, it is because the plastic oil calorific value 10 519 cal / g equivalent calorific value premium. This research is expected to address the scarcity of fossil fuels, and increasing public awareness of using alternative fuel, especially plastic waste fuel.

Among waste compositions, only plastic waste takes the longest time of decomposition, about 100-500 years. This is because the characteristic of plastic is unravel which can lead to pollution of land, water and air. To overcome these problems, many people try to find solutions for plastic wastes such as burn, bury and recycle plastic wastes. But, all these ways still have negative impacts for the environment and the safety of the workers who do the combustion process. Therefore, it is a conversion machine that can convert plastic wastes into fuel with pyrolisis system, it burn plastic wastes in vacuum condition. This machine can reduce a lot of plastic wastes, reached 450 kilos every day for 20 kilos reactor capacity, and it’s also safety for environment because the plastic wastes are burnt in the reactor with 900 °C heat. So, the process and the oil are not produces dioxine gas. The innovations of this conversion of plastic waste machine are, it has a continuous pipe with screw conveyer in it to give plastic as much as 5 kilos plastic wastes into reactor continual and it also has a reservoir wet-steam-oil around the upper side of reactor to receive wet-steam-oil that stick on inner side of the reactor’s cover. So, this machine can produce more oil, because the wet-steam-oil cannot be burn in reactor anymore but automatically received by reservoir.
Upaya penelitian terhadap bahan bakar alternatif perlu dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah krisis e... more Upaya penelitian terhadap bahan bakar alternatif perlu dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah krisis energi di Indonesia saat ini yang diharapkan bisa dipakai secara luas bagi masyarakat serta bersifat ramah lingkungan. Bahan bakar yang sedang menarik perhatian saat ini adalah bahan bakar minyak hasil dari konverter sampah plastik menjadi minyak. Pada pengujian sebelumnya, proses konversi dilakukan dengan memanaskan reaktor yang telah berisi 350 gr sampah plastik pada suhu 900°C menghasilkan minyak sebanyak 350 ml dengan nilai kalor sebesar 45514.70 J/g. Namun, pada saat pengujian masih terdapat losses gas (uap yang tidak terkondensasi) sebesar 40%, seharusnya minyak yang dihasilkan dapat lebih dari 350 ml. Guna mengurangi jumlah losses gas tersebut, maka dilakukan optimalisasi kondensor dengan cara menghitung besar kebutuhan kalor pendinginan, menentukan jenis kondensor yang efektif, sehingga nilai efektivitas kondensor meningkat, losses gas berkurang sehingga minyak yang dihasilkan lebih banyak dari pengujian sebelumnya.
