Thirukarthigai - The festival of lights.

In the winter evening with flowers and rangolis all beautiful girls lit the oil lamps to welcome God. The light is an auspicious symbol which brings all the happiness and prosperity to our homes. Festival fact - Once when Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were fighting for the superiority, Lord Siva came with a pillar of flames and asked to identify the root of the flame and they failed. The day when Lord Siva appeared as a pillar of fire is celebrated as Karthigai.
