Poludnitsa is a mythical character common to the various slavic countries of eastern Europe. Poludnitsa is a noon demon in Slavic mythology. She can be referred to in english as "Lady Midday","Noonwraith" or "Noon Witch". She was usually pictured as a young woman dressed in white that roamed field bounds. She assailed folk working at noon causing heatstrokes and aches in the neck, sometimes she even caused madness. (art by Oksana Martyshenko)
Ever since I started telling you about my native Slavic folklore, I feel a bit like Baba Yaga’s ambassador🦉 So, now I’ve decided to invite you in her hut on chicken legs on a brink of Smorodina fire river… The pictures we’ve created with @khvost.art are here to be a helpful visual, they may be not 100% historically accurate, but we’ve tried our best🐔 What else would you love to know about Baba Yaga? Or, maybe, some other Slavic folklore or mythological characters?
Koliada...
Koliada or is the traditional Slavic name for the period from Christmas to Epiphany or, more generally, for Slavic Christmas-related rituals, some dating to pre-Christian times. It represents a festival or holiday, celebrated at the end of December to honor the sun during the Northern-hemisphere winter solstice. It also involves groups of singers who visit houses to sing carols.
