Each super force acting in correlation with each other at different times. I will prove this by mathematical induction.

However, realization of these PICs requires integration of crucial optical components, such as optical isolators. Currently, isolators fabricated with inorganic crystal technology cannot be easily integrated into PICs. The objective of this summer’s research project is the fabrication and study of polymer waveguides with magneto-optic (MO) properties. This research will provide the building blocks for a compact optical isolator, which can be easily incorporated into PICs. Our waveguides are rendered magneto-optic by introduction of magnetite nanoparticles into the waveguide’s polymer core or cladding. In the presence of an external magnetic field, these magnetite nanoparticles will produce Faraday rotation as polarized light propagates through the waveguide. Our MO waveguides will be fabricated using simple polymer deposition techniques and patterned using Direct Laser Writing (DLW), a highly reproducible and mask-less lithography method. We develop Labview software libraries for rapid prototyping of various waveguide geometries, such as linear waveguides and couplers. Fabricated waveguides are then tested in the lab to measure Faraday rotation and optical loss. Throughout this research, key waveguide and fabrication parameters will be optimized to maximize Faraday rotation while minimizing optical loss. Preliminary data suggests that our process leads to the creation of low-loss waveguides with significant Faraday rotation.

In this series of experiments, we investigated the hypothesis that dopamine 2 receptor (Drd2) activation interrupts a cAMP-dependent feed-forward loop that maintains PACAP expression at a high level in the fetal pituitary. Using single-cell RT-PCR of pituitary cell cultures from newborn rats, Drd2 mRNA was identified in gonadotrophs that were also positive for PACAP mRNA. PACAP expression in pituitary cultures from embryonic day 19 rats was suppressed by the PACAP6-38 antagonist and by the Drd2 agonist bromocriptine. Increasing concentrations of bromocriptine inhibited cAMP production as well as cAMP signaling based on cAMP response element-luciferase activity, decreased PACAP promoter activity, and decreased PACAP mRNA levels in αT3-1 gonadotroph cells. Furthermore, blockade of dopamine receptors by injecting haloperidol into newborn rat pups partially reversed the developmental decline in pituitary PACAP mRNA that occurs between PN1 and PN4. These results provide evidence that dopamine receptor signaling regulates PACAP expression under physiological conditions and lend support to the hypothesis that a rise in hypothalamic dopamine at birth abrogates cAMP signaling in fetal gonadotrophs to interrupt a feed-forward mechanism that maintains PACAP expression at a high level in the fetal pituitary. We propose that this perinatal decline in pituitary PACAP reduces pituitary follistatin which permits GnRH receptors and FSH-β to increase to facilitate activation of the neonatal gonad.

The causal beliefs which adults have regarding their mental health difficulties have been linked ... more The causal beliefs which adults have regarding their mental health difficulties have been linked to help-seeking behaviour, treatment preferences, and the outcome of therapy; yet, the topic remains a relatively unexplored one in the adolescent literature. This exploratory study aims to explore the causal beliefs regarding depression among a sample of clinically referred adolescents. Seventy seven adolescents, aged between 11 and 17, all diagnosed with moderate to severe depression, were interviewed using a semi-structured interview schedule, at the beginning of their participation in a randomised controlled trial. Data were analysed qualitatively using framework analysis. The study identified three themes related to causal beliefs: (1) bewilderment about why they were depressed; (2) depression as a result of rejection, victimisation, and stress; and (3) something inside is to blame. Although some adolescents struggled to identify the causes of their depression, many identified stressful life experiences as the cause of their current depression. They also tended to emphasise their own negative ways of interpreting those events, and some believed that their depression was caused by something inside them. Adolescents' causal beliefs are likely to have implications for the way they seek help and engage in treatment, making it important to understand how adolescents understand their difficulties.

The present study was based on video recordings of snack time at a psychoanalytic toddler group. The qualitative methodology employed involved line-by-line thematic extraction based on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Extracts of observations are presented with accompanying explanatory text. These extracts are ...

The content of the study was the experience of migration for two participants who had emigrated to a South American capital city. Data analysis involved two linked processes: a) immersion in, and thematic sorting of, recordings and transcripts; b) analysis of 'countertransference'feelings aroused in the researcher both immediately after the ...
