Consider a way to suppress the user's signature
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Stories

  1. As a Senior Contributor who is starting a new section with the New Discussion Tool, I want to be able to decide whether the tool automatically adds my signature on a per-use basis, so that I can avoid: A) my signature being published to a talk page twice and/or B) my signature appearing at all.

Note: since the New Discussion tool replaces the old way of adding a new section to a page, it can be a little harder to make these edits in the old wikitext editors.

  1. As a Senior Contributor, I want to be able to use subst templates that will add my signature within the Reply Tool without having to worry about my signature appearing twice.

To clarify, this behaviour is exhibited when replying as well, not just when creating a new section.

Agreed, @Tenryuu. I've updated the task description to include the Reply Tool case.

I have need for this when copying entire sections to be archived. Doing this manually means that I can't use the new section link unless I disable DiscussionTools on the new section. Being able to suppress a signature when making a new section would be ideal for me. If concerned about newbies removing their signature without meaning to, then perhaps it could be hidden behind a preference that means new users are much less likely to accidentally not sign a post.
