How to construct a Tarpus (not Persian, but ambient Middle Eastern, pre 1700)
Traditional festive headgear from the Olti/Oltu region (North of Erzurum province). Well-to-do Armenian, c. 1900. The felt hat is adorned with needle work, small Ottoman copper coins, 2 x four lines of: wild pearls + one silver coin, and a gilt silver clasp holding a purple silk tassel; the tassel is attached to the hat by a string of blue glass pearls. A large silk scarf with embroidered edges completes the headgear. (Inv.nrs. ba$023 & yaz069 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
