Here, the sabkha deposits comprise a layered sequence of clays, silts and sands with variable shell and organic content where a common feature is a variable level of cementation by various salts. The deposition is recent (Quaternary) and there is a tendency for open and weakly cemented grain structures which result in low density, low shear strength and high compressibility.
