Students were recruited to design a new navigational architecture for the Moodle pages of the Language Centre. They received some training on the key principles of distributive learning and worked with a small team of Language Centre Blended Learning coordinators in a series of rapid prototyping design workshops. The core focus of the project was on creating a suitable navigational architecture which would enable our predominantly Chinese students to engage confidently with our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) pages and to limit cultural cognitive dissonance as much as possible. The student designs were then vetted by the entire team of tutors and used as the basis for the development of a coherent blended learning plan.

WeChat is an extremely popular instant messenger facilitating communication through a media rich environment that can be used synchronously, asynchronously or semi-synchronously with voice or text messages. WeChat is widely used in China and a growing number of informal highly autonomous language learners join or form WeChat groups to learn and practice speaking languages in personal networks of learning. The study sought to bring together French learners and expert users to give them increased opportunities to practise their spoken French on a daily basis for a period of three months to support the development of spoken fluency.

This module seeks to give students in all three University Campuses (United Kingdom, China, and Malaysia) the opportunity to continue to learn a foreign language together, blending, where this is geographically possible, face to face learning opportunities with online learning. It strongly emphasizes language learning as a lifelong learning skill and seeks in particular to develop students' skills in learning to learn a language in digital realms and to develop a strong set of digital literacies for language learning.

It has become a privileged mode of writing for many writers who have adopted and adapted it to very different and personal poetic visions and approaches to writing. Many literary theorists have long claimed that the meeting point between fiction and autobiography, which so strongly shapes contemporary self-representational aesthetics, is a fundamental area of women's writing. Christine Angot's works, however, have seldom been labelled or viewed in these terms by the French literary establishment. Instead critics have spent much time focusing upon what they see as the very 'poor' and pale use of the imaginary in her texts, often in sharp contrast to the convoluted and complex formal structures of the texts themselves. Indicative of this tendency is the way in which Pierre Marcelle concludes his review of Sujet Angot in Libération: 2 S'il y a quelque chose qui trouble, dans Sujet Angot, c'est la complexité de l'élaboration formelle au service d'une 'histoire' si autobiographique. Tant d'imagination au service de si peu d'imagination en quelque sorte. 3 (If there is something puzzling about Sujet Angot, it is the complexity of the formal elaboration employed for such an autobiographical 'story'. So much imagination serving so little imagination, in a way.) Complexity of formal elaboration is indeed a trademark of many of Angot's works, and the imaginary counterpart is both schematic and repetitive:

Published in December 2002, Languages for All: Languages for Life A Strategy for England, set out the Government's 8 year plan to transform the national language capability. The cornerstone of the strategy was the introduction of an entitlement for all pupils ages 7-11 to learn another language by 2010. It was expected that the language teaching would be done by private tutors, secondary school teachers or even by parents. In reality, most of the language teaching taking place in Primary schools today is undertaken by the class teacher, and the choice of language has often been driven by the languages available among the teaching staff. CILT (the National Centre for Languages), in partnership with other stakeholders, produced up skilling specifications targeted at training providers, including HEIs, Adult Educati...

This initiative, endorsed by the UK campus within the Students As Change Agents (SACA) programme, aimed to address key concerns within the University with regards to employability and to the difficulty of combining a UK model of higher education and employability requirements within the Chinese context. This case study will look at the benefits of co-curricular design and at the importance of involving students in employability related projects. It will finally review performance and feedback from the first cohort of students and indicate areas for improvement.
