Finally books on the same subject were either classified or indexed. The total number of books processed was 581. A comparison was made of the time required for processing in different situations and of the number of classes or subject headings used. The time figures were compared with corresponding data from the British Library (1972) and the Library of Congress (1990 and 1991)

Mutta kirjaan sisältyy paljon muutakin, kuten ilmeni Sinikaran artikkelista Signumissa 2/2022.

Kirjastotiede ja informatiikka 12 (1): 20-21, 1993. The writer regards reports of parishes, which were delivered to ministerial concentions every fifth year, as Finnish public library history sources of the latter part of the 19th century. The character of the parish reports is illuminated by examples showing the view they presented of libraries and literacy.

The method consists of two phases. In the first phase, a dictionary is created that maps UDC numbers to subject headings, and in the second one this dictionary is mechanically applied to convert the bibliographic databases. The first phase is tested with 15 different parts of the UDC, with translation success and problems recorded. The problems of each part are scrutinized, and three main types of UDC classes are described: the synthetic, the shallow enumerative and the deep enumerative. The time spent in the first phase is found tolerable, and the initial question of translatability of the whole UDC is considered in the light of the results
