Chansamone Saiyasak has been serving in missions in Thailand and Laos since 1992. He has established and lead the Mekong Bible Seminary, Mercy Christian School, Charisa Technological College, Mercy Foundation, Association of Christian Ministers and Workers, and Nathan Trading Co., Ltd., for facilitating missional movement. He also serves on the PhD faculty of PTS College & Advanced Studies, Philippines, and Doctoral Faulty of Zenzendorf School Doctoral Studies, Olivet University, California, as well on the Executive Committees of Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand (in Asia Evangelical Alliance), Asia Society of Missiology, and SEATNET Missiological Forum. He has two earned doctorates from Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Belgium, and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, USA. He additionally studied at Harvard Graduate School of Education, Yale School of Management, and Saad Business School, Oxford University. He’s married to Piyapon and has 4 children.

The development of Asian Christian spirituality as experienced by Asian Christians primarily drew... more The development of Asian Christian spirituality as experienced by Asian Christians primarily drew on the direct influence of the Western missionary spirituality and the interaction between the missionary spirituality and axial religious and indigenous contexts as well as the core values of Asia. It took on broadly two streams of Asian spirituality: one, Western-dominant based spirituality and the other, an indigenous-dominant based spirituality. Both streams, however, grew from the spirituality of the Protestant traditions/denominations of the missionaries, while later stream has retained less of their missionary spirituality. As they spread, they caused considerable tensions and clashes. The clashes can be viewed in two types: power clash and core-value clash. Although much indigenization and contextualization (inculturation) efforts have been achieved among the tensions and clashes, Christianity is nowhere near the finishing line. Rethinking and reforming Christian spirituality for Asia is essential and crucial for penetrating Asia's cultural heartlands. Critical thinking in redefining and reframing Christian spirituality by Asians and in terms of Asia's religious and cultural contexts, reflecting on Asia's core values, while deeply rooted in biblical spirituality, is vital and imperative for a new dynamic Asian Christianity spirituality. As Christian spirituality looks to the future, the author strongly urges the development of an engaged, contextualized and indigenized Asian spirituality that includes the following four engagements: (1) engaging in biblical spirituality ingrained in personal prayers and biblical reflections, (2) engaging the communities of faith for growth and collective reflections, (3) engaging & embedding in the axial religious and indigenous cultures of Asia, and (4) engaging in the indigenization and contextualization process of developing Christian spirituality by Asians for Asian contexts.
