Lately I've watched several movies and series. ATypical was one of my favorite series as was Anne with an E. The Grand (Hotel) and The Duchess of Duke Street, Detectorists, are also series I've enjoyed.
Justine, Blue Magic, Poms, To the Bone, and the Book of Henry are movies I recently watched. These were OK. But if you want to know where they stream from, all I can say is that most of them were probably Netflix, but we also get Britbox, Acorn, and another British channel (Prime, Disney, and Hulu are available too - although I seldom use those - actually I've seen most of the Disney ones).
Anyway, like a good book, just thought I'd mention a few movies and series you might want to check out. At the moment we're watching Manifest on Netflix. It's a strange one. A plane leaves an airport for a short flight and arrives 5 1/2 years later. No one on board has aged... and it gets a lot weirder after that. It may well go the way of the Lost series... where I think the writers got lost themselves in the story and eventually just quit. We hung on through this season. Really wonder if they will continue it.
books and movies.... love the scenery in some of the British movies and series... |

Wish I had some wonderful pet or nature pics to share, but alas, I don't. Well, I do have one of a feral cat lying on the cat tree on the back patio. It's isn't a good clear shot, but you can get the gist. He's enjoying lounging there.

As most of you know, I tend to make our own facemasks. It's one of the few things I can sew... face masks and quilts. A friend recently asked me if I would make a few for her cousin in New Orleans, and since most of our family and friends have several masks already made by me, I hadn't made any lately. But sure, I could do that. So I made a few more and mailed them out.
Also started on a hodge-podge quilt since I was back in the sewing mode... and am using up scraps of fabric left over from other projects. It's going to be a weird one... calling it my pandemic quilt.
Here's what I've done so far... (please don't laugh). It may not be beautiful, but it could keep someone warm one day. It's only 39x21 at the moment, but I have a lot more scraps... all sizes of bits and pieces... and eventually I'll add a solid border.

Hope you're having a good weekend. Take care of yourself and each other. Everyone has to do what they think in their heart is right... I truly believe this... and when I'm not sure, I find asking myself if what I'm doing (or not doing) is possibly helping the situation or making it worse.
I listened to someone talk on Face the Nation this morning (a Crisis Specialist) and she was saying that we need to quit making this an "Us against the Other" situation. We need not to use humiliation. It never works. If it's a matter of trust... then find a doctor or medical/science person we really trust and listen to his/her opinion (on the virus, vaccines, or masks - not on political issues as these really aren't political issues).
Anyway, this made sense to me. Thanks for reading. DH is making red beans today (Hurray! My favorite all time dish). Will post the recipe next time if anyone is interested.
Hugs (virtual),
Rian
we started watching manifest a while back, the girl who does my nails recommended it. we watched quite a few episodes and then i felt kinda lost and we stopped watching it!! i actually don't remember why, maybe because i was lost!!
ReplyDeletei think your quilt is lovely, using up old fabrics is a wonderful idea. perhaps you can remember the project in which it was first used, and reminisce a little!!
i too am running out of things to write about. even though i am vaccinated, i am staying home. i am also staying home because of my physical limitations at this time!! i do think we better get ready, i am afraid things are quickly going to go back to the way they were. i always told my boys, "it may not always be easy, but it will always be worth it!!
happy sunday!!
Yes, Debbie, Manifest is one of those stories that is interesting at first, then kind of gets lost as it continues. Waiting to see if it will come back for a second season or if they've given up on it.
DeleteAs for the quilt, it is colorful (I will say that)... and it is resourceful to use up all those extra little pieces of fabric, but that's about all I can say about it for now.
And I too believe that we had better be ready for this next wave of Covid (Delta variance or whatever comes next). It's not going away... or at least not any time soon. We will have to learn to live with it - to some extent. I just wish we would all stand together against it... instead of this division.
ooooh i agree on this division and that's all i am going to say too. if you say too much, you create a war!! i will probably get my legs back, just in time to stay at home. i could have timed this a little better!!
DeleteYou are the second person to mention Manifest to me this week. It's apparently in Season 2 already, and I guess I need to watch from the first to understand it. It might have to wait for awhile. That cat sure does look comfy, all right!
ReplyDeleteDH tells me that we've watched all 3 seasons... who knew? But it's a strange one and even if you watch from the beginning, it's a bit 'out there'. Watch and see what you think.
DeleteRian I was watching Manifest too, which was dumped on Netflix after the series was canceled on nbc. There were only two seasons produced, but as I'm sure you've heard, this show has been very popular on Netflix and people are petitioning for a season 3. Netflix might just do it. I like the start of your quilt, and there is nothing to laugh about. Handmade quilts are awesome always! Please keep us up today okay? 🙂
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words for my pandemic quilt. Usually there's a pattern to follow when sewing a quilt. My favorite is the log cabin pattern. But this is pretty eclectic... different sizes, etc. but what the heck, it keeps me busy and may turn out 'interesting' if nothing else.
DeleteI sometimes reach out to people who disagree with me. Jesus says to love others as yourself, that is a good rule to follow. Your pandemic quilt is colorful, which is what I like and your visiting cat looks comfortable on the cat tower. I have a cat tower that only my dog uses, my cat never did, not even once. You include a lot of wise sayings, thank you. Oh, I loved The Detectorists. Have you watched Still Game? From Scotland, love it.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Detectorists too! I think I would love doing that... actually watched the whole of it twice. Have never heard of Still Game... but will check it out.
DeleteI started watching Manifest on NBC and enjoyed the first season but like you mentioned, it seemed to get lost as it kept going. I think there are 3 seasons.
ReplyDeleteImpressed with your cat. Mine totally ignored my cat tree.
We have many feral cats around. This one is the only one so far that seems to like the cat trees (we have 2 on the patio).
DeleteI love the old bookstores poster the best.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is a good one... covers all the bases.
DeleteYour quilt is lovely and colorful and such a good use of scrap materials. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched any of the programs you've mentioned. I do have access to Netflix but only turn to it when I have nothing else to watch. Then I get frustrated trying to find something I think I might like to watch and usually give up and read a book instead.
I'm not sure why we've become so entrenched in our viewpoints, but the rhetoric that comes from political leaders and pundits have certainly added to the polarization. It's problematic that facts seem to be disbelieved as there is so much misinformation and disinformation floating around. I tend not to engage because I realize I'll never change anyone's mind.
Mae, I very seldom sit down and watch a whole program. It's great that with streaming we can just pause it and return later. This is what I do. Quilt a little, blog a little, clean a little, cook a little, watch a little TV, etc. - breaks up the day. Lately I've added sketch a little, and crochet a little to the agenda. Made a peach dump cake yesterday!
DeleteReading is usually confined to after lunch and at bedtime.
As for information and disinformation, I tend to go with what the people I trust believe (my doctors, family medical personnel, etc.) and my own common sense. If a person has no one they really trust, then I find that a sad thing. But I do not engage either... it really does no good.
