Frustrated with furniture flips that chip, peel, or just don’t look the way you hoped? Here’s what might be going wrong and how to fix it: 1️⃣ Skipping Primer: Primer ensures a solid bond so your paint stays put. Don’t skip this step—prime like a pro! 2️⃣ Using the Wrong Paint: Wall paint on furniture? Not ideal. It doesn’t hold up to wear and tear. Opt for a durable option like One Hour Enamel. Got leftover latex paint? I’ve got a hack to make it furniture-friendly. Comment “LINKS” to learn how! 3️⃣ Using the Wrong Sandpaper Grit: Work smarter, not harder. Use 80-120 grit to remove finishes, 150-180 grit to pre

Rebecca Janis on Instagram: "Here are the steps to give your new wood that aged look 👇🏻 1. Use a course wire wheel that attaches right to your drill (I got mine from Amazon) Go across the grain and with the grain at the highest speed. This removes all that soft wood between the grain lines and makes it look textured. Don’t worry about going too deep this really gives it that aged look. If you want you can brush in the direction of the grain with a wire brush but the wire wheel will work just as well and go a lot faster. 2. Use a nylon brush as your last step before applying stain. The nylon brush makes the grooves nice and smooth. Use the brush until your happy with the smoothness of the texture. 3. Apply @minwaxusa pre stain conditioner. Since I used pine, the stain gets very u

Hannah Joyce | Home Design & DIY on Instagram: "Got orange wood and want to change it?? I tried this mixture on an orange wood tone lamp and it transformed into a beautiful rustic white oak look. And the best part is, I didn’t have to sand or strip the sealer off! - 2 coats paint wash - 1 coat gel stain - 1 coat polyurethane (optional) Unlike stain, paint will adhere to a sealed surface. Watering it down allows the wood grain to remain visible rather than covering it. And then the gel stain applied on top allows you to alter the color to get that wood tone. If you want the step by step details comment “paintwash” and I will message you the info! . . . A: I prefer a 1:10 ratio for most pieces (1 part paint to 10 parts water) Q: What paint/colour? A: Any water-based paint will do. I like to use mostly a tan colour- no specific colour , I’ll usually just mix a couple colours together to make a tan. Q: When do you decide to paint wash and when do you use wood bleach? A: paint washing is preferred when the timber species is already light in colour - such as pine, maple, ash & oaks. If you have red woods such as Cherry, maho
