In the light of the psychoanalytic approach, The Road can be read as a novel about a boy’s growin... more In the light of the psychoanalytic approach, The Road can be read as a novel about a boy’s growing up in a devastated and barren post- apocalyptic world. The novel reveals that having lost his mother and facing the dead wherever he goes with his father, the boy struggles to overcome his fears of death and loss. What is more, in questioning his father’s decisions, he
questions the morality of the world that existed and the one he lives in. Finally, the readers are faced with the boy’s gradual becoming an individual, thus distinguishing himself from the
shadow of his father.
