The thesis is devoted to a comprehensive study of the colonial and postcolonial policy of Great Britain in the Caribbean in the 1930s –1983. The latest period of British colonialism is an important and relevant topic, given the contemporary status of Caribbean ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The transition of London to the policy of federalization of the Caribbean colonies after the Second World War is traced. In the second half of the 1940s, the Ministry of Colonies launched a campaign to support the creation of the Federation of the West Indies, but British Guiana, British Honduras and Bermuda refused to participate. The Caribbean colonies gradually gained self-governing political power, but after 1948, mass migration from the region to the metropolis began, which testified to the continued existence of crisis phenomena in the politics and economy of these territories.
The transformation processes in the Caribbean colonies after the collapse of the federal formation in 1962 until the completion of the decolonization of the region in 1983 within the East Caribbean Federation are highlighted. In this way, the colonies became associated states with their former metropolis, and the Westminster model of the political system was introduced, which had previously functioned fully only in the dominions.
The features of the economic course of Great Britain in the Caribbean in the 1930s and during the Second World War are analyzed. At the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, sugar prices collapsed, exacerbating the crisis and as a result of public protests in the Caribbean. In this situation, the metropolis introduces funds to finance economic projects in its territories, implementing the Colonial Development and Welfare Acts.
The economic aspects of the creation of a federation in the British West Indies and afterwards due to 1983 are traced. After the Second World War, London's policy of investing in the colonies in the Caribbean was continuous, and the Colonial Development Corporation was established in 1948 to plan economic projects within the British Empire.
