In general, peer-to-peer systems try to locate exactmatch data objects to simple user queries. Since peer-to-peer users generally tend to submit broad queries in order to find data of their interest, we develop a P2P data sharing architecture for computing approximate answers for the complex queries by finding data ranges that are similar to the user query. Thus this paper represents the first step towards solving the general range lookup problem over P2P systems instead of exact lookup operations.
PRL-3, a metastasis-associated phosphatase, is known to exert its oncogenic functions through act... more PRL-3, a metastasis-associated phosphatase, is known to exert its oncogenic functions through activation of PI3K/Akt, which is a key regulator of the rapamycin-sensitive mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1), but a coherent link between PRL-3 and activation of mTOR has not yet been formally demonstrated. We report a positive correlation between PRL-3 expression and mTOR phospho-activation in clinical tumour samples and mouse models of cancer and demonstrate that PRL-3 increased downstream signalling to the mTOR substrates, p70S6K and 4E-BP1, by increasing PI3K/Akt-mediated activation of Rheb-GTP via TSC2 suppression. We also show that PRL-3 increases mTOR translocation to lysosomes via increased mTOR binding affinity to Rag GTPases in an Akt-independent manner, demonstrating a previously undescribed mechanism of action for PRL-3. PRL-3 also enhanced matrix metalloproteinase-2 secretion and cellular invasiveness via activation of mTOR, attributes which were sensitive to rapamycin treatment. The do...

We show that the photoluminescence spectra of carbon dots are inhomogeneously broadened due to the slower relaxation of the solvent molecules around it. This gives rise to excitation-dependent fluorescence that violates the Kasha-Vavilov rule. The time-resolved experiment shows significant energy redistribution, relaxation among the emitting states, and spectral migration of fluorescence spectra in the nanosecond time scale. The excitation-dependent multicolor emission in time-integrated spectra is typically governed by the relative population of these emitting states.

It is a rare entity but we encountered four cases within six months. A 52-year-old female had high grade fever and evidence of inflammatory pathology involving the ileocaecal region. She was initially managed conservatively and subsequently underwent exploratory laparatomy. The appendix was perforated and herniating in the inguinal canal. Appendectomy was done with herniorrhaphy without mesh placement. A 74-year-old male with bilateral inguinal hernia, of which, the right side was more symptomatic, underwent open exploration. Operative findings revealed a lipoma of the sac and a normal appearing appendix as content. Contents were reduced without appendectomy and mesh hernioplasty was performed. A 63-year-old male with an obstructed right sided hernia underwent emergency inguinal exploration which revealed edematous caecum and appendix as content without any inflammation. Contents were reduced without any resection. Herniorrhaphy was performed without mesh placement. A 66-year-old male with an uncomplicated right inguinal hernia underwent elective surgery. The sac revealed an appendix with adhesions at the neck. Contents were reduced after adhesiolysis and hernioplasty was performed with mesh placement. Emphasis is made to the rarity of disease, variation in presentation, and difference in treatment modalities depending upon the state of appendix.

The products were assessed for their anion sensing properties. Among these, the receptor with a methoxy substituent showed selective fluorescent sensing towards adenosine-5′-triphosphate (ATP) and cytidine-5′-triphosphate (CTP) in contrasting modes in 100 % aqueous media at pH 7.2.

The shifting locus of innovation and value creation away from the 'sole firm as innovator' poses important questions about the nature of resources that exist in the spaces between firms, and the capabilities needed to leverage them for competitive advantage. The purpose of this research is to produce design-oriented knowledge, for configuring interorganizational networks as a means of accessing such resources for innovation. Methodology / Approach -This exploratory investigation conflates emerging constructs and themes analytically induced from a systematic survey of 142 scholarly and practitioner articles and 45 expert interviews with senior professionals operating in the biopharmaceuticals industry. Findings and Practical Implications -The findings identify 7 theoretically and empirically grounded technological rules associated with effective interorganizational networking for innovation. They embody evidence ex post of networking theory and practice. Based on van Aken's seminal work, they comprise vital design-oriented knowledge to provide a solution architecture of viable action options for managers, a priori, to purposefully design innovation networks. Collectively these rules represent a tentative taxonomy, a means of classifying design principles, to assist managers in navigating their decision making processes. Originality/value of paper -This study demonstrates the need for explicit design-oriented knowledge for configuring interorganizational networks. Finally, the implications of the findings for strategic management theory are discussed from a Dynamic Capabilities view. The significance of a dynamic capability which addresses the renewal of network-specific resources is highlighted.

In the In Salah CO 2 storage project assessed here, five wells at Krechba produce natural gas from the Carboniferous C10.2 reservoir with 1.7-2% CO 2 that is delivered to the Krechba gas processing plant, which also receives high-CO 2 natural gas (~10% by mole fraction) from additional deeper gas reservoirs and fields to the south. The gas processing plant strips CO 2 from the natural gas that is then injected through three long horizontal wells into the water leg of the Carboniferous gas reservoir at a depth of approximately 1,800 m. This injection process has been going on successfully since 2004. The stored CO 2 has been monitored over the last five years by a Joint Industry Project (JIP) -a collaboration of BP, Sonatrach, and Statoil with co-funding from US DOE and EU DG Research. Over the years the JIP has carried out extensive analyses of the Krechba system including two risk assessment efforts, one before injection started, and one carried out by URS Corporation in September 2008. The long history of injection at Krechba, and the accompanying characterization, modeling, and performance data provide a unique opportunity to test and evaluate risk assessment approaches. We apply the CF to the In Salah CO 2 storage project at two different stages in the state of knowledge of the project: (1) at the pre-injection stage, using data available just prior to injection around mid-2004; and (2) after four years of injection (September 2008) to be comparable to the other risk assessments. The main risk drivers for the project are CO 2 leakage into potable groundwater and into the natural gas cap. Both well leakage and fault/fracture leakage are likely under some conditions, but overall the risk is low due to ongoing mitigation and monitoring activities. Results of the application of the CF during these different state-of-knowledge periods show that the assessment of likelihood of various leakage scenarios increased as more information became available, while assessment of impact stayed the same. Ongoing mitigation, modeling, and monitoring of the injection process is recommended.

NBRI 4014 are potent growth promontory strains. In the presence of metal(s), they have shown increased cell morphology and could accumulate nickel (2.0874 mM/g), cadmium (2.295 mM/g), and chromium (2.997 mM/g) at pH 9. However, chromium accumulation was maximum, but the toxicity levels of nickel, cadmium, and chromium was ranged from 90 to 504 microM of used metal(s). Bioaccumulation increases up to the fifth day at the highest used metal concentration and then became constant. This suggests their exploitation for detoxification and subsequently loaded biomass treatment for the recovery of accumulated metal(s).

The new method employs a direct injection from a MDI vial into the needle injector port of a manual injector. To evaluate the two methods, beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP), 5,5-diphenyl hydantoin and 3,3'-diindolylmethane, were used as model compounds in propellant HFA-134a. Comparison was performed by analyzing known and unknown concentrations of BDP in various combinations of HFA-134a and ethanol. In addition, the solubility of 5,5-diphenyl hydantoin and 3,3'-diindolylmethane were determined in HFA-134a using both the new and the conventional methods. The two methods were found to be in good agreement with each other, with the new direct injection technique offering enhanced precision and accuracy along with considerable reduction in analysis time.

The syndrome has been given several names such as insulin resistance (IR) syndrome, plurimetabolic syndrome, Reaven's syndrome, Syndrome X, and the deadly quartet. The formulation of National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP) guidelines has led to some uniformity and standardization of the definition of MetS and has been helpful epidemiologically. The clinical relevance of MetS is related to its role in the development of cardiovascular disease. Weight reduction is one of the mainstays of treatment. This article provides a comprehensive discussion of metabolic risk factors, the history of MetS, and its diagnosis, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment. There is a need to comprehensively review this particular syndrome in view of the ever increasing-incidence of this condition.
