2000 note

Supply of new notes from RBI has plummeted in recent weeks leading to speculation it could be a deliberate ploy to restrict the flow of high-value currency.

On May 19th this year, the Reserve Bank of India made a surprise announcement by announcing the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation. Six years after the country witnessed the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, this move was named ‘mini-demonetization’ or demonetization 2.0 by many people, even though Rs 2000 notes were withdrawn from circulation but not demonetized.
