At the same time, patients suffering from mental disorders had high prevalence of using cannabis compared to the general public. Despite all those facts, there were gaps in linking risks resulting from use of cannabis t o mental disorders. In the first paper, Schubart et al. (2011) strongly linked subclinical psychotic symptoms to early age and heavy use of cannabis. In the second paper, van Dijk et al. (2012) formulated four hypotheses to ascertain the findings using controlling confounding factors in the cohort study. The findings established a close connection between frequency of cannabis consumption and patients with schizophrenia.
The last paper by Veling et al. (2008) cemented the argument by confirming the link between use of cannabis use to schizophrenia brushing aside hypothesis that correlation of genotype-environment was associated with not only schizophrenia patients but also with their siblings and minority in general population. The findings led to the recommendations that nursing implications encompassing educational and preventive approaches should be adopted in clinical practice to effectively manage effects of cannabis use. Furthermore, corresponding assessments entailing screening and follow-up monitoring services are recommended in such cases.
