MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty-six patients admitted to the present clinic over three years were in- cluded in the study. Patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer were grouped into the areas of epithelial and granulosa cell tumor diagno- sis. The values were compared to patients with benign cystic structure. Patients' preoperative hematologic parameters and their values four weeks postoperatively were analyzed. Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS software. RESULTS MPV, NLR, and platelet count were observed at a higher rate as statistically significant in patients diagnosed with malignant ovarian cancer, compared to those with benign adnexal mass. CONCLUSION The hemnatological parameters such as MPV, NLR, and platelet count in the detection of malignant ovarian tumors have been evaluated as useful new markers.

Ayvalik, which was an important Greek settlement under Ottoman rule, experienced a major turning point with the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923, an event that caused dramatic changes in the political, demographic, and economic structure of all of Anatolia. Nonetheless, Ayvalik has maintained its importance through its ongoing olive-based industries and well-preserved historical urban fabric, the likes of which represents one of an exceptional example of living testimony of continuing land-use by Turks. Following the relocation of industrial activities in the 1980s, many of the industrial heritage buildings became non-functional, while half of them were converted i...

Design/Methodology/Approach This consideration of how an urban form is created and regulated according to property rights is a subject that has to date not been investigated like in this way by analyzing the archive materials and records in the title deeds and cadastral plans in a specific urban form. Accordingly, the hypothesis of this inquiry is focused on defining the relationships between property rights and urban form, which will help to reveal the hidden and intimate norms-regulations of the context. This will also help in the making of an objective analysis through information gathered from primary legal written and graphical sources-title deeds and cadastral plans-for a subjective issue. This research, therefore, suggest that the property rights and its urban grammar are

However, due to fast technological developments and changes in production systems, there is a large stock of derelict industrial buildings within the city center. In addition, few of them are restored under poor conditions as a result of financial profits. This situation puts Ayvalık's olive industrial heritage which constitutes the identity of the town at critical risk of extinction. Ertem Olive Oil Factory is one of the industrial heritage buildings in Ayvalık dating back to 1910 which is a typical well preserved-medium scale 19th-century olive oil factory including both olive oil and soap productions. The aim of this paper is to discuss a conservation approach for the industrial settlement of Ayvalık by assessing the factory and its close environment through values, problems and potentials. The paper thus begins with brief history of Ayvalık and the effects of industrialization on the city. It continues with theoretical principles of adaptive re-use through contemporary literature and general evaluation of adaptive re-use examples in Ayvalık according to these principles. The third part focuses on the general characteristics of Ertem Olive Oil Factory and its close environment. The final part discusses the conservation approach for the adaptive re-use through values, problems and potentials of the building and Ayvalık.

This paper first discusses the destructive effects of changing settlement patterns on the traditional building stock and explores earthquake damage on traditional Turkish buildings, analysing the 1894-İstanbul, 1970-Gediz and finally 1999-Kocaeli earthquakes. A short definition is then provided of timber-framed building methods in Anatolia, and the earthquake damages occurring in them are given. The following section briefly discusses the earthquake behaviour of timber-framed constructions in different countries. The paper concludes with the interpretation of features that increase the earthquake resistance of timber-framed buildings, which are related to the selection of land and the use of the lath and plaster technique, timber lintels, braces and nails.

Traditional Ottoman timber-frame houses (“ hımış”) form the major part of the cultural heritage s... more Traditional Ottoman timber-frame houses (“ hımış”) form the major part of the cultural heritage structures in Turkey. There are many studies in the literature regarding the seismic performance of hımış houses, which claim that these structures have an inherent seismically resistant property. However, these studies lack a quantitative engineering approach and are based on observations made after contemporary earthquakes. This study presents the results of the seismic resistance evaluation of traditional Ottoman houses, made by means of reverse cyclic frame tests conducted on six yellow pine and two fir frames with and without infill (brick and adobe) or cladding ( bağdadi and şamdolma). The experimental study, which was intended to differentiate the effects of infill materials, frame geometry, and timber type, has revealed that frames with bağdadi cladding and adobe infill resulted in the best and worst structural performances, respectively, while high ductility and good energy dissi...
