Your statement
[edit]Hello, Orangemike.
I've read your statement and I am willing to translate that to Portuguese. However, I'm in doubt about a few terms and I ask you, please, to clarify them to me:
- I've been a union steward for decades (...)
- What would be a "union steward"? Are you referring to anything outside Wikimedia? Can you give me another word for "union" and "steward"?
- (...) been on and eventually chaired my unit's bargaining team (...)
- "Unit's bargaining team" seems to be something outside of Wikimedia. Can you give me a short description of that?
- I've served on the board of my 26,000-member union (...)
- "Board of my 26,000-member union" seems to be something outside of Wikimedia. Can you give me a short description of that?
You can answer on this page. Thank you.” Teles (T @ L C S) 12:42, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- Intendente do meu sindicato?
- equipe por echinchar em nome de (de parte de?) nossa unidade (parte de nossa sindicato)"?
- "conselho diretor do meu sindicato com 26,000 membros" ?
- Thanks, Orangemike. However, I think that if you answer in English it will be easier for both of us. I will read your statement again and see what I can do. By the way, good luck for you.” Teles (T @ L C S) 19:17, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- A steward is an minor official (often unpaid) who serves as a representative for a union member in various circumstances, speaking for the union and the member's interests to management and serving as a resource for the member.
- A bargaining team is the team of union members who speak for their bargaining unit (clerical workers; law enforcement officers; pilots and navigators; etc.) at the bargaining table.
- The executive board is the group of members who govern a union between union conventions; it consists of member officers such as President and Treasurer, plus additional member representatives from the constituent units of the union. --Orange Mike 20:59, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. I've translated to Portuguese; I hope I did it correctly. If "union" refers to "Labor union", it can be translated to "sindicato". I'm not sure what exactly is "steward", so I used a generic term. Thanks.” Teles (T @ L C S) 16:23, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- "Union" is definitely "labor union"/sindicato; dictionaries tell me that "steward" translates to "Intendente". --Orange Mike 01:02, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
