Project Plan

[edit]

Activities

[edit]

1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?
The contest Wiki Loves Africa 2022 in Sudan will focus on photo shooting and donation activities under the theme Home and Habitat. The contest will facilitate main face-to-face activities in two states Khartoum and South Darfur based on community focal points existence. The Sudanese photographers is a growing community but most of them are not engaged with the open knowledge movement. As part of the contests group of photographers in two cities (Khartoum and Nyala) will be trained on wikimedia commons and wikipedia, promoting the international Wiki Loves Africa 2022 contest Theme.

16 photographers and 16 community members will participate in 4 events will be held simultaneously in the two cities one day for each events (10 persons in each)

  • Training and orientation workshop,
  • Photo-walk
  • Upload session
  • Edit-a-thon

Expert community member will take part in implementing the contest as facilitators and mentors follow-up will be through inline social media applications (Whatsapp group and Telegram Channel)

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
Participating in wiki love Africa as a mean to increase content of Sudan is one of the set goals of the community plan as stated in our user group strategy. Please refer to Sudan User Group page on meta

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
The community has telegram channel and we will be using social media targeting photography communities

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding. We think based on our previous experience in organizing WLA2020 that we will have a jury of 3 professional photographers to facilitate selecting winners based on selection criteria they will be helping in setting. Three local awards will be given for the selected winners from the 10 short listed.

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?
The Sudanese Photographers in the country needs to be approached to get to know Wikimedia community and the contest. One of the tools that could be used is organizing photo-walks, uploading sessions where we can help by facilitating venue and internet connection. We also plan to have three edit-a-thon face-to-face events in Khartoum / South Darfur States to promote the contest and help editing the uploaded photos from the contest.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
yes, the community will run in-person workshops events

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

political situation in Sudan is unstable, which hindering accurate planning but the community is excited to organize the contest under the nominated theme which is very relevant to the Sudan current context.

  • Support Support and hope VERY MUCH that this year you will be able to finally get some funding !!! I will nevertheless note that 1) the risk assessment sheet is still missing and 2) I think the budget proposed is too high compared to activities and likely impact (no expected impact figures were given by the way). Any chance to get some meeting space for free ? I also think jury members should be volunteers (currently 150 pounds per person) etc. Anthere (talk) 23:57, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
Dear user:Anthere thank you for support and good points you highlight. For meeting place we still navigating our way to grow as community so we still don't have much support but we sure will try to find hosting for future events as the situation now most of universities are shut down and culture centers are restricted in access to their premises. The jury are supporting the Wikimedia Community but we need to at least support their time and internet cost we think its will help make sure they dedicated enough time to go through contest pictures. I did update the impact figure. What items you think id high?
ok for the space. Budget wise... I think the 150 pounds per jury member is high. I understand paying for the connecting costs, and providing them with a gift or a good restaurant invitation. But still is high.
Thanks for adding impact with number of photos (which is probably too high for you by the way, you are being optimist my friend... but that’s no big deal really. Which is why I think by the way that the budget per jury member is too high. They are unlikely to have 600 picts to review.
Working on the risk sheet. Ola.mahadi (talk) 02:53, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
