Grants:IdeaLab/Free document delivery service for active authors
Project idea
[edit]What is the problem you're trying to solve?
[edit]The use of books and printed material should be strongly encouraged to write articles in WP. A huge amount of knowledge resides within books, which are currently not online and may never be. Access to copies of book excerpts and journal articles are therfore a fundamental requirement to improve the quality of WP. The use of interlibrary loan (ILL) is a cost intensive matter. Prices vary between 3 and 12 EUR per 20 pages of a copy.
What is your solution?
[edit]The WP foundation should make contracts with important libraries or networks (like Subito in germany) to achive free interlibrary loan service for authors with an approved output. WP has traditionally a strong support from libraries all over the world. This could be a valuable support in addition to the existing WP program for granting access to comercial online databases.
Project goals
[edit]Acccess to written content, stored in libaries all over the world, by removing financial barriers for interlibrary loan within the the realm of WP.
