Dec 8, 2019 at 21:27 | comment | added | Michael Freidgeim | Have you read a comment regarding shog9 message? : @YaakovEllis Shog's comment doesn't say it's not useful, just that the problem is elsewhere: in the guidance for people which questions are already closed. Once that is fixed, the desired effect would be achieved. – Braiam Nov 15 at 11:53

Dec 6, 2019 at 7:11 | comment | added | theforestecologist | The current ask-a-new-question only approach also fails to recognize that once a user tries to do that, many mods will quickly pounce on them as simply duping their own previous question (even if it is different). I have seen too many hundreds of examples of questions being closed as dupe when they really are not. I feel like some users will just get stuck in a loop of never getting their question answered. :/

thanks for making me privy to this, Glorifindel. glad to see you had similar thoughts. regardless of Shog9's stats, I still disagree with the approach because it's ignoring the psychological impact this has on new users. I like the old phrase If those answers do not fully address your question, please edit this question to explain how it is different or ask a new question because it left open the possibility that a user could self-improve.

I'm not Stack Exchange staff, but it's essentially a duplicate ...
