I was unaware you could request name changes for impersonations/harassment until just now, and occasionally I will end up at his account by accident, or see an old edit of his (usually saying things like "why don't you drop dead"). Grand scheme of things, harmless, but I would very much like to see his account renamed so there is no confusion that his vandalism was in any way shape or form, me (particularly since he edited several articles that I frequently edit and he took my name as a username). I put down "mgimpersonator" as the new name, but honestly it could be anything. Could be numbers for all I care. I would just like my identity to not be taken on Wikipedia is all.

I have three local account.

1.2 The other user’s activities

The other user, hereafter called "he", has the global account and has edited four wiki.

  • Local wiki: es.wikipedia, Edit count: 961, First edit: 2006-06-07, Last edit: 2010-12-14 (Home wiki)
  • Local wiki: es.wikiversity, Edit count: 108, First edit: 2006-10-19, Last edit: 2008-05-06
  • Local wiki: lo.wikiversity, Edit count: 2, First and last edit: 2010-10-26
  • Local wiki: meta.wikipedia, Edit count: 1, First and last edit: 2010-02-07

2. Comparing the activities on home wiki

I created the first local account on ja.wikipedia and made first edit on 2005-09-02. The other user created the first local account on es.wikipedia and made first edit on 2006-06-07. I created the first local account 9 months earlier than him.

On 2009-08-07, the number of his edit was 696 and the number of my edit was 755. On next day, 2009-08-08, he edited about 60 times and the number of his edit reached mine. He registered the global account soon after that and merged his accounts.

However, I think that this assignation is not appropriate. Because his edit was frequently divided to many small piece and it was sent every several minutes (ex. [46]). Therefore, the number of his effective contributions is smaller than mine. This is true even now.

3. His activities on all Wikimedia projects were completely finished

He edited four wiki, but two of them are one or two edit. That is, he edited mainly two wiki, es.wikiversity and es.wikipedia. His activities on es.wikiversity was finished in 2008. He created the global account in 2009, so he acted in es.wikiversity as local account only. That is, his global account has been used effectively in es.wikipedia only. His activities on es.wikipedia was finished in 2010. After he finished his activities on es.wikipedia, he has never contributed to any wiki. Furthermore, he has been blocked on es.wikipedia many times and he was blocked indefinitely on 2010-12-15 [47]. Thus, his activities on all Wikimedia projects were considered to be finished completely.

That is great! I had thought that the merge tool would be needed. It seems not. I knew it would help to set the two passwords to be the same before requesting this. It all seems to have worked perfectly. I now get "Login unification complete!" and all seems to be working fine. I do want at some point to put a notice on my userpage about when this transition occurred, as the Commons uploads prior to this date by either account may have been used (and credited) externally, so hopefully that will avoid any possible confusion. Had a warning been issued to me, via e-mail or talkpage, before the "too late, you're going to be renamed" message, I would've taken care of the issue then. Since I have always only dealt with Enwiki, I never saw any of the posts on meta (and, in fact, can't even log into meta) to know that the rename was imminent. The criteria being made available wasn't really all that available. When an account has been on the brink of usurpation in the past, a notice would be put on the target account's talkpage while there was still an opportunity to do something about it. With this, no notice was given until it was too late. I have been using "Salv" as an enwiki local "shortcut"/doppelganger to my full username "Salvidrim!", and it is useful because I sometimes receive pings through it (as well as my other doppelgangers for that matter, especially "Salvidrim" and "Salvadrim")
Now it has been auto-renamed to "Salv~enwiki" due to some "SUL finalization" thing
I want "Salv~enwiki" renamed to "Salv" (and/or to be able to control the "Salv" global account). I am unsure what the exact process is, but I assume it will entail renaming the no.wikinews "Salv" account to "Salv~nowikn" (it has been unused since 2008 and is not active whatsoever), then "Salv~enwiki" to "Salv".
To the best of my understanding, there had not yet been any finalized "global usurpation policy" but I also understand that this particular request should be uncontroversial -- I am active, whoever the nowikn user was hasn't been active in 7 years and only had 5 edits over 5 days to one page in 2008, there is no logical or ethical reason that he should "own" the SUL more than me, who presently has use for it.

"Salv" on nowikn is an account that has been used 5 days 7 years ago and never since. "Salv" on enwiki is an account that currently is of use to the active admin who owns it. What I'm saying (and what I've been saying well before this SUL unification wave came to pass) is that by every conceivable angle of common sense, I should be authorized to own the SUL because I want it an I use it. There is no reason to lock the SUL to a nowikn user who is long gone and won't see any use of it. There exists significant existing discussion on meta about "global usurpation", and while the currently established text states that requests are judged on a case-by-case basis by Stewards (and Global Renamers, I guess), one of the usurpation conditions that seems to have garnered the most support here is "The account has under ten edits, and the last edit is from over three years ago." This is applicable to the present situation -- 5 edits 7 years ago. I think the most recent agreement amongst meta users is that I should be allowed to request this usurp successfully.   • Reason: Hi renaming experts, sorry for bothering you with this. I have not followed wikipedia and related projects close enough to notice the ongoing renaming, so it was good I got an email telling me about it.

For 5 projects I got an account with the username "Boudewijn". I have been gathering those since 2005. Over the last 10 years I made some contributions to each of the projects, even though most of my edits are anonymous.

In the SUL-renaming-project another user had just a few more edits than my max on one of the projects, and so that account became the global account. I would like to use "Boudewijn" as SUL for my accounts. More objective arguments:

  • all of the edits of boudewijn-on-commons are done within 1 hour in 2007.
  • there has not been any activity from that account since.
  • my combined edits are higher than those of the current SUL-account

Is it necessary to request SUL account deletion for the current Boudewijn-SUL, or can that one be renamed?

I think we should give the global account to this Boudewijn (enwp, nlwp, enwn, enwk, nlwk).
