Administrator access

AfroUnderscoreStud@ngwikipedia

I am AfroUnderscoreStud of the Ndonga Wikipedia, our administrative team is barely existent and rarely any adminstrative activity happens. I am requesting adminship to modify the MediaWiki interface so that we can translate the interface from English to Ndonga. AfroUnderscoreStud 21:05, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

This should actually be done at translatewiki instead of directly on the interface, the results will be automatically transferred over. James (T|C) 21:11, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
May I ask where I make the request on Translatewiki? AfroUnderscoreStud 21:12, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
On the main page there is a link for "translator privileges" which gives directions on how to make a request for well translator privileges :) You also may want to read "Translating Intro" which is a couple links above that for a quick guide on how it works. James (T|C) 21:16, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
However you surely agree that the project barely has a active administative staff. AfroUnderscoreStud 21:47, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Waiting to ~ January 4th, pending community feedback on request for adminship. Laaknor 22:18, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Understood. We do operate differently than other Wikipedia projects so sorry for any confusion that you might get. AfroUnderscoreStud 19:21, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Not done of course. --M/ 22:26, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Please ask on the local village pump if anyone objects to you getting admin-rights. If noone objects in ~ one week, you can be given temp sysop. However, I think we should begin at 3 months and not 6. Laaknor 14:34, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

I don't want to be an administrator because the procedures are taking to much time and the conditions are changing from week to week so I'm withdrawing the request to become temporary administrator--MSClaudiu 12:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Good day, I request to become a temporary admin for three months on cr.wiki to do maintenance. This Wiki needs a lot of maintenance ; mainly editing pages in the Wikipedia space and deleting pages. I didn't open any discussion on this matters on the wiki itself because it seems there is not much community on cr. 23:38, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I was referred here. Hi all, my old account is User:Ta bu shi da yu. However, while I retired from Wikipedia some time ago, I never resigned my adminship as there was never a problem with my adminship conduct. However, I have since come out of retirement, so I was wondering if I could have the admin rights transferred from Ta bu shi da yu to Tbsdy lives?

Alternatively, I would be happy to ask for this on Wikipedia:WP:RFA, however I believe that there is precedent to transfer admin rights from one account to another. Ta bu shi da yu 00:17, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Local rights removed. en:User:MBisanz already mentioned on the en bureaucrat noticeboard that he'd give you admin locally. Let us know when your rights are granted locally so we can close this, please? Kylu 00:25, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Forwarded to local bureaucrat noticeboard. In instances where a project has active local bureaucrats, it's up to them to restore the permissions (in this case, admin tools). Closing as "Not done", though I have no doubt you'll regain them locally. Kylu 03:26, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, because of my bad English, I'll speak in English and Spanish: This is my third time I am temporarily administrator in the Basque wiktionary, and the 25th of this month it will expire. So I ask again to be, and this time if it could be forever, not temporary. And not cast a vote because birdy told me not to lack, and that made it in more times. Greetings --Bengoa (My user talk) 13:07, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Saludos --Bengoa (My user talk) 13:07, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hola, Bengoa, I can read Spanish but I'm less confident writing it, so I'll reply to your Spanish comments in English, if I may. (Si lo prefiere, puedo tratar de traducir mis comentarios.)
According to our usual policy, we only grant permanent rights after the community has voted. I can't think of any exceptions to this rule. I'm not sure why Spacebirdy told you this was not necessary (note to others reading this: 'no hacia falta' -> 'there was no need') - I'll leave her a note, but she is very busy off the wiki these days, so I don't know how fast she will reply. When you say "la había hecho varias veces" do you mean that there have been several elections already, or that Birdy has given permanent adminship without elections several times?
I would, of course, be glad to give you another six months of temporary adminship, or you can hold an election at euwiktionary to get permanent adminship. — Dan | talk 21:10, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Hello. Yes, I remember that birdy said to me those. But I havn't any problem to do a votation. When I said 'la havia echo varias veces' I was saying i did the votation in many times, But I going to put a votation now. Thanks :) --Bengoa (My user talk) 13:01, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks. Let us know after a week or so. — Dan | talk 02:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok. I'll tell you in 25 of this month, it's the day of the admin expire. Thanks :) In that day, if all this in moved to the other page I'll copy all this and put again here, to know all. Bye! :) --Bengoa (My user talk) 12:51, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
I did the votation. Is here. The other admin, and it is the other only active user, vote to me. I think it is all well. Bye! --Bengoa (My user talk) 14:07, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for extending the vote. Policy is clear on this, you need 25-30 votes and 70-80% support for a checkuser election to be valid. 20 votes are not enough. See CU#Access_to_CheckUser. I hope that helps clarify matters, this is not a debatable point. ++Lar: t/c 19:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Followup: It appears that the extension did not do much good, only one more vote was received, and that on 1 December. That's unfortunate... perhaps another extension and some publicity? ++Lar: t/c 19:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I didn´t have a possability to wrote in last time by technical problems. If this is such a problem (even Dungodung sayed thats fine for him), I would like to give a link to another election, wich was maded on a much larger project without problems Lucas Teles. If there is still a problem I can extend again, and as you wrote make some publicity. --WizardOfOz 20:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
You're correct in that the mentioned election does not meet the minimum requirements as stated for a general election, though pt.wikipedia isn't a completely accurate example for the situation: The request for checkuser assignment was given to us by a member of the pt.wikipedia ArbCom, which is one of the exceptions to the access to checkuser policy. You may wish to consider rescheduling your checkuser elections during a time of the year when people are not so busy, perhaps, to get greater turnout? Kylu 00:46, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Extended again. We gonna make more publicity. Those 5 votes will be not a problem :) THX --WizardOfOz 10:32, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps the difficulty in finding 25-30 people to show up at the election is a sign that local CUs are not needed?  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:46, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

We have 26 votes but two of them have not enough edits by the rules, and the last one is coming soon :), after vacation. --WizardOfOz 02:26, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
I ask you let me say something: actually, the sentence "...the mentioned election does not meet the minimum requirements as stated for a general election...", as it refers to this, is not correct at all, because it was a second round (2º turno) - a run-off -, just to choose between the two candidates that both meet the minimum requirements (see here) and received 25 votes each one. As there were two other candidates (43 and 39 votes) and we had to choose only three check-users, we had to make another election, only between the two candidates (me and Lucas). The election had all the minimum requirements, the voting period, the candidates mainpace edits, the minimum support and so on. CasteloBrancomsg 17:08, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
So it is done! 25 votes, and 100% support. User is identified, so please if someone can give him the flag. --WizardOfOz talk 18:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, this is now   Done, after a long and tedious procedure. 25 votes is enough, the user has been identified, he has 100% support. --FiliP ██ 23:14, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Following the build up of some tension, I'm requesting the removal of my access as bureaucrat on fr.wikipedia.org, while keeping the sysop tools. I'm aware that the stewards won't give me the rights back, this is a thought-through decision. I like Wikipedia, and I'm feeling that if I don't give up the bureaucrat rights now, I'll just give up contributing altogether. The sysop tools are much funnier to play with. Thanks, Esprit Fugace 13:21, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to wait until tomorrow, so that some more time is allotted to think :)
Ciao, --M/ 18:51, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
I know you surely had your share of drama, diva, and other "I will/I won't", but really, I'm not so inconsistent as to ask for removal one day and annoy a steward the other day, whinning for my tools. This is no loss for me : I like being a sysop, but bureaucrat is just an annoying duty I took up for a while because there were no one else, and one that wearies me more and more these days. But there, wait a day, a week, a month, as you like. It won't change my decision. Esprit Fugace 23:18, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Not done yet. I Google translated Jalla's response, which indicated some desire to keep the tools for anti-graffiti work. But not a strong desire. Somebody who speaks Swedish needs to look at the specifics of this more closely. Especially needed is a look at the sv.wiki policies concerning inactive admins. Jalla has not edited since 8 Feb 2009. --Daniel Mayer (mav) 16:38, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
The swedish Wikipedia has no policy about inactive sysops but the sysopship is only for 12 month. Jalla has not ased for a new period and nobody has asked him for a new period. I think you read an old question, from an earlier year at Jalla's user talk. You can read about the policy about time-limited sysops here. -- Lavallen 16:48, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello! I think that one of the things slowing down input on the Cherokee Wikipedia is that many people don't know how to input the non-roman characters into the computer. A helpful user on the Navajo Wikipedia has taught me how to create an input bar (that is in use on Navajo Wikipedia) for use on Cherokee Wikipedia. I request temporary Admin rights so I can impliment this, in the hope of making Cherokee Wikipedia easier to use for those who do not know how to setup a Cherokee keyboard and what not. i follow the contributions made on the wiki and bring enhancements each time it is possible-you can look at my homepage to see the work that has been done; i should log in before each contributions of mine in order to have higher statistics ...
many things have been done to maintain contributions on the wiki but the community is still poor; there are a small increasing on anonymous contributions but the take-off is not spectacular yet.
Please remember to sign your posts with "~~~~", it sets a good example as you grow your community. I agree with Thogo that you should be a visible contributor to the wiki you want a temporary adminship on... Perhaps it's as simple as remembering to log in so we can see your work. Perhaps come back in a few weeks? ++Lar: t/c 01:07, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
i don't know why coming back in a few weeks, my contributions are on my homepage (homepage), on my discussion panel (ht:Diskisyon_Itilizatè:Masterches), on the log there ([45]); i'm not an inexperienced user ...it's my fourth application for this post and the reasons invoqued each time for not having a longer adminship are "community is too small to give you more than 6 or 3 months"; do explain me what the problem is now... Masterches 10:35, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Because when we go to your contribs on htwiki we see only 5 edits since June. That's not very many. If you aren't working there much or at all, do you need a temp sysopship there? I'd be inclined to say no. But you also said you were contributing but forgot to log in.... so, try to remember to log in and come back in a few weeks so we can see what you do there, that's my thinking. No we can not. If the community wish all admins to have the right (not recommended), hold a local discussion and file a request on Bugzilla. If you wish to have local import-rights, request the permission locally (like you would do if you asked for admin-access(?)), and come here and we can grant you the permission. Laaknor 09:17, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I have already put a request on bugzilla (see bug #21762), but there, they says that there is no problem for importing (the person who replied me is a staff member on wikimedia) whereas I have a problem when trying to import... I understand according to this that importation function is enabled for staff, but not for administrators ? If it's really that, I will write a request on mg.wiki and if nobody replies to this, can I get rights after 10 days or I must absolutely have a positive reaction before having importer rights over there and on mg.wikt ? --Jagwar 交談 homewiki 18:28, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Comments in vi.wi about vote

The following discussion is closed.

Hello everyone.

My name is vi:Thành viên:*khi người ta trẻ*.Now, here there ( Vietnamese) is a vote which I think it is not reasonable. According to sysop vi:Apple, “it will turn the wrong thing into the right thing”. Personally, I think that we only vote when the boundary of “acceptable things and unacceptable ones” can die after the vote. Concretely, “there is no clear boundary between the right and the wrong”. After carefully read the reports , I see that this vote cannot stand for this. It’s because among the problems raised to discuss have been set in the Vietnam’s regulative documents (the problem here is the rule documents of Vietnam about this issue have many weak points that make people misunderstand and they will express by different ways). Above is my brief opinions, if this issue belongs to your competence, I hope that you will willing to give your ideas. My English is not very good, so you can contact with our sysops to understand more clearly, specially, them members like vi:Thành viên:Mxn, vi:Thành viên:DHN, vi:Thành viên:Vietbio *khi người ta trẻ* 14:24, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
