The purpose of this study was to compare the level of IL-6 in mothers who delivered via cesarean section and vaginally. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done on 40 mothers with vaginal delivery and 40 mothers with elective cesarean delivery in 2012 in Ayatollah Rouhani Teaching Hospital in Babol, northern Iran. Five ml blood samples were taken from each mother. Blood samples were examined by enzyme-immune assay for the determination of IL-6 in both mothers and neonates. Other information, such as the mother's age, newborn sex, gravity, parity, the number of live births of each mother, and the status of infants in terms of being term or pre-term, was recorded. Results: The mean age of cesarean section and vaginal delivery patients was (29±5.01) yrs and (27.3± 4.93) yrs. The maternal IL-6 concentration in vaginal birth (170.13 ±15.9) was significantly (p<0.05(higher than cesarean section (33±29.94) CONCLUSION: The result shows that serum IL-6 levels in patients with vaginal delivery was higher than those with elective cesarean section delivery. So, vaginal delivery is preferred for all patients except those in whom vaginal delivery is contraindicated.

Methods: COVID-19 patients (confirmed by PCR or CT-Scan) who visited Imam Hospital in Sari were selected in this case-control study. The control group was selected from Tabari cohort population matched with the case group in terms of gender and age. CBC, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and outcome of the disease (in the case group) were assessed in this study. Results: The number of participants were 527 in both case and control groups, of which, 232 (44%) were females in each arms. Platelet count, lymphocyte count, and hemoglobin concentration were also higher in the control group (P=0.000). NLR and PLR were significantly higher in COVID-19 patients compared to the control group (P=0.000). NLR had a significant relationship with the severity of the disease. NLR was two times higher in the patients who died of COVID-19 than those who recovered (P=0.000). ROC curve analysis for diagnostic values of NLR and PLR showed that the areas under the ROC curves for NLR and PLR were 0.703 (95% CI: 0.64-0.76) and 0.535 (95% CI: 0.46-06), respectively. Conclusion: NLR can be used as a prognostic marker for COVID-19 given the significant difference of NLR between those who died and recovered from COVID-19.

According to the high prevalence of new coronavirus, further investigation on the clinical and paraclinical features of this disease seems essential. Hence, we carried out this systematic review and meta-analysis to figure out the unknown features. Methods: This study was performed using databases of Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed. We considered English cross-sectional and case-series papers which reported clinical, radiological, and laboratory characteristics of patients with COVID-19. We used STATA v.11 and random effect model for data analysis. Results: In the present meta-analysis, 32 papers including 49504 COVID-19 patients were studied. The most common clinical symptoms were fever (84%), cough (65%) and fatigue (42%), respectively. The most common radiological and paraclinical features were bilateral pneumonia (61%), ground-glass opacity (50%), thrombocytopenia (36%) and lymphocytopenia (34%). The study also showed that the frequency of comorbidities and early symptoms was higher in critically severe patients. Moreover, we found the overall mortality rate of three percent. Conclusion: According to that there are many cases without Computed Tomography Scan findings or clear clinical symptoms, it is recommended to use other confirming methods such RNA sequencing in order to identification of suspicious undiagnosed patients. Moreover, while there is no access to clinical and paraclinical facilities in in public places such as airports and border crossings, it is recommended to consider factors such as fever, cough, sputum and fatigue.

We aimed to characterize clinical conditions, the prevalence profile of Candida species, and outcomes of COVID-19 patients with OC.MethodsIn this observational study, oral samples were obtained from COVID-19 patients suspected of OC admitted to Razi teaching hospital. Patients with OC were monitored daily until discharge from the hospital. Species identification was performed by a two-step multiplex assay named YEAST PLEX, which identifies 17 clinically important uncommon to common yeast strains.ResultsAmong the 4133 patients admitted with COVID-19, 120 (2.90%) suffered from OC. The onset of signs and symptoms of OC in patients was, on average (2.92 ± 3.596 days) with a range (of 1-29 days). The most common OC presentati...

Garlic is one of these plants that is mentioned in Islamic sources because of its beneficial effects on human health. In traditional medicine it was used to treat different diseases. This review study aimed at presenting the nutritional properties of garlic according to Islamic sources and its therapeutic applications in traditional medicine. Materials and methods: A narrative review study was carried out, searching online databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, Pub med, Science direct, ISC, Magiran, and SID. Articles published in 1994-2015 were selected. Also, Holy Quran, Islamic narrations and hadith, traditional medicine and medicinal plants books were studied. The search keywords were Allium stivum, medicinal plant, and Holy Quran. Data was then categorized and analyzed. Results : Garlic contains some antio...

In this research, we aimed to study the psychological, social, and economic status of patients with different types of cancer in Mazandaran province, Iran. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in patients with cancer who were admitted to Sari Imam Khomeini Hospital, 2017. Data was collected using a researcher-made form that was designed to determine the frequency of the most important and the most common psychological, social, and economic components. The form was completed by researchers, at the Cancer Research Center, for 375 patients with cancer who were selected by convenience sampling. Results: Psychologically, most of the patients accepted their disease at the time of diagnosis (46.9%). Most of the participants mentioned the death of loved ones as the most important bitter incident before the disease (41.6%). Children status was one of the ma...

This trial aims to evaluate sofosbuvir and daclatasvir versus standard care for outpatients with mild COVID-19 infection. Methods This was a randomized controlled clinical trial in outpatients with mild COVID-19. Patients were randomized into a treatment arm receiving sofosbuvir/daclatasvir plus hydroxychloroquine or a control arm receiving hydroxychloroquine alone. The primary endpoint of the trial was symptom alleviation after 7 days of follow-up. The secondary endpoint of the trial was hospital admission. Fatigue, dyspnoea and loss of appetite were investigated after 1 month of follow-up. This study is registered with the IRCT.ir under registration number IRCT20200403046926N1. Results Between 8 April 2020 and 19 May 2020, 55 patients were recruited and allocated to either the sofosbuvir/daclatasvir treatment arm (n = 27) or the control arm (n = 28). Baseline characterist...
