In multi-player pursuit evasion game, hierarchical framework is applied widely in order to decompose the original complicated multi-player game into multiple small scale games, i.e. one-pursuer one-evader games and multi-pursuer single-evader games. The latter is especially required for superior evaders. Although usually only suboptimal results are obtained, the resulted decentralized approaches are favored by researchers from the point view of communication aspect for practical applications. Based on our previous work, for a multi-pursuer singlesuperior-evader game on a plane, we first study the number of pursuers which necessitates the capture. Regarding each player as a mass point, a moving planar coordinate system is fixed on the evader. Then formation control is used for pursuers in their pursuit strategies deriving to 1) avoid collision between pursuers; 2) reduce the distance between each pursuer and the evader over the evolution of game; 3) keep the pursuers' angular distribution around the evader invariant during the pursuit process and enclose the superior evader within the union of each pursuer's capture domain at the end of game. The validity of our method is illustrated by two simulation examples.

This paper introduces a real-time decentralized approach, in which decentralization strategy reduces computational complexity in multi-pursuer multievader situations, cooperative chasing strategy guarantees capture of some superior evaders, and min-max double-sided jamming confrontation provides optimal jamming-estimation strategies under adversarial noisy environments. Extensive simulations confirm the efficiency of this approach.

Recently, battlefield situations pose new difficulties for missile defense systems, which make traditional interception systems inefficient. The problems revolve around two aspects: 1) The guidance law insufficiency (traditional forms PN, DGL/1, and DGL/C); and 2) Resource management insufficiency. This paper fuses game theoretic resource management and a noise level related guidance law to existing missile defense system which is called Differential Game Law Type M (DGL/M). Intensive simulations show that this approach demonstrates improvements over existing methods. 1 2

Oxidation reactions are not an exclusive concern for the food industry, and antioxidants are widely needed to prevent deterioration of other oxidisable goods, such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and plastics. Polyphenols are the major plant compounds with antioxidant activity, although they are not the only ones. In addition, other biological properties such as anticarcinogenicity, antimutagenicity, antiallergenicity and antiaging activity have been reported for natural and synthetic antioxidants. Special attention is focussed on their extraction from inexpensive or residual sources from agricultural industries. The aim of this review, after presenting general aspects about natural antioxidants, is to focus on the extraction of antioxidant compounds (mainly polyphenols) from agricultural and industrial wastes, as well as to summarize available data on the factors aecting their antioxidant activity and stability, and, in some cases, the reported major active compounds identi®ed. #

The glucose solutions obtained were supplemented with nutrients, sterilized and used for culturing the red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous (formerly Phaffia rhodozyma). Both cell growth and carotenoid production by the yeast were studied in culture media made from hydrolysates. The experimental results showed that the culture media made from hydrolysates are suitable for both proliferation and carotenoid production by the micro-organism studied. The distribution of individual carotenoids (including astaxanthin, canthaxantin, /~-carotene and echinenone) in microbial pigments was also studied.

Methods: The Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS), an international investigation providing patient-and facility-level data on hemodialysis practice, was developed to provide information on various aspects of current practices in hemodialysis management, including treatment of renal anemia. Results: Hemoglobin concentration is strongly associated with both morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. Although some improvements can be documented in anemia management practices in the years after the publication of international guidelines, wide variations in anemia management are still observed among countries. Conclusion: Many efforts are still needed to allow a greater proportion of patients to reach the recommended hemoglobin concentrations. Significantly improved outcomes may therefore be expected by a more widespread reaching of the recommended hemoglobin levels. The results of the DOPPS point to the difficulties in implementing clinical guidelines in the everyday management of individual patients. In specific circumstances, a well-designed observational study may offer credible information and serve as a basic instrument for monitoring the implementation of clinical guidelines in typical clinical practice. In the model, all kinds of intra-cavity losses are taken into account, including the point losses produced by fiber splices and intra-cavity elements, and the distributed loss, such as the active fiber background loss and the loss caused by excited state absorption inherent in erbium-doped fibers. The model also takes into account the exact function that describes the switching dynamics of the Q-switch modulator. We show that the distributed model allows an accurate simulation of the laser pulse shape and energy, providing therefore a good agreement with the experimental results. The origin of a multipeak pulse shape frequently observed in QS-EDFL and some other features that result from the model are discussed.

Considering that the participating plants have their individual fuzzy cost goals and that the park authority has the objective of minimizing total freshwater consumption in the EIP, this problem may be formulated as a bi-level optimization problem, with the park authority as the upper-level decision-maker. A bi-level fuzzy optimization model is developed to explore the effect of charging fees for the purchase of freshwater and the treatment of wastewater in optimizing the water exchange network of plants in an EIP. The effect of subsidizing exchange of streams between plants is also included in the model. Results show that it is not necessary to impose exorbitant fees, nor to completely subsidize costs associated with recycling, in order to induce significant reduction of the consumption of freshwater in the EIP.

Methods: Data collected from nationally representative samples of HD patients (n ؍ 11,041) in 2002 to 2003 were used to describe current anemia management for long-term HD patients at 309 dialysis units in 12 countries. Analyses of associations and outcomes were adjusted for demographics, 15 comorbid classes, laboratory values, country, and facility clustering. Results: For patients on dialysis therapy for longer than 180 days, 23% to 77% had a hemoglobin (Hgb) concentration less than 11 g/dL (<110 g/L), depending on country; 83% to 94% were administered erythropoietin (EPO). Mean Hgb levels were 12 g/dL (120 g/L) in Sweden; 11.6 to 11.7 g/dL (116 to 117 g/L) in the United States, Spain, Belgium, and Canada; 11.1 to 11.5 g/dL (111 to 115 g/L) in Australia/New Zealand, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and France; and 10.1 g/dL (101 g/L) in Japan. Hgb levels were substantially lower for new patients with end-stage renal disease, and EPO use before ESRD ranged from 27% (United States) to 65% (Sweden). By patient, EPO use significantly declined with greater Hgb concentration (adjusted odds ratio, 0.61 per 1-g/dL [10-g/L] greater Hgb level; P < 0.0001), as did EPO dosage. Case-mix-adjusted mortality and hospitalization risk declined by 5% and 6% per 1-g/dL greater patient baseline Hgb level (P < 0.003 each), respectively. Furthermore, patient mortality and hospitalization risks were 10% to 12% lower for every 1-g/dL greater facility mean Hgb level. Patients were significantly more likely to have Hgb levels of 11 g/dL or greater (>110 g/L) if they were older; were men; had polycystic kidney disease; had greater albumin, transferrin saturation, or calcium levels; were not dialyzing with a catheter; or had lower ferritin levels. Facilities with greater intravenous iron use showed significantly greater facility mean Hgb concentrations. Mean EPO dose varied from 5,297 (Japan) to 17,360 U/wk (United States). Greater country mean EPO doses were significantly associated with greater country mean Hgb concentrations. Several patient characteristics were associated with greater EPO doses. Even in some countries with high intravenous iron use, 35% to 40% of patients had a transferrin saturation less than 20% (below guidelines). Conclusion: These findings indicate large international variations in anemia management, with significant improvements during the last 5 years, although many patients remain below current anemia guidelines, suggesting large and specific opportunities for improvement. Based on the Markov game theory and the advanced knowledge infrastructures for information fusion, the approach can enhance threat detection, validation, and mitigation for future counterspace and space situational awareness (SSA) operations. A Markov game is constructed to model the possible interactions between the dynamic and intelligent threats and friendly satellites, and effects of various space weather conditions. To systematically solve the complicated Markov game, a conversion from general Markov games into several Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) as well as some static bi-matrix games is provided. The proposed Markov game model and innovative solution are demonstrated in a numerical example.

The two main proposals, namely the Bilateral and the Poolco models, even though their original intents were to promote efficiency in a deregulated industry, in order to be workable need a powerful centralized organization. They consequently end up operating in the same way as the regulated industry. The coordinated multilateral trading model lets the suppliers and consumers make a profit on their own while the Power System Operator only intervenes if the security of the power network is threatened. The PSO gives sufficient information about the status of the power network so that the brokers can arrange trades without endangering the security of the network. Moreover the economic data of the participants is private, thus encouraging economic competition in a free market. It is shown that the process of building such trades leads to an efficient use of the power network,...
